Speaking at the commissioning of the 26-kilometre Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba-Ofemili road on Thursday at Awba-Ofemili, Governor Soludo in company of his executive council said that history has been made.

According to him, days are gone when civil servants who are posted to Awba-Ofemili especially teachers, see it as punishment because between Amansea to Awba-Ofemili now takes about 20 minutes unlike before when it takes hours depending on the season of the year.

He also directed the deputy governor in charge of boundary matters, Dr Onyeka Ibezim to ensure that the land dispute between Awba-Ofemili in Anambra State and Ibute-Olo in Enugu State is resolved amicably in the shortest possible time.

He pointed out that because Awba-Ofemili land is fertile, especially in rice production every neighbour would like to partake in it.

Soludo promised to be frequenting Awba-Ofemili for its reputable good rice production and other agricultural products.

Describing Awba-Ofemili also as a rice basket of modern Nigeria, he recalled that during 2010 campaign, he could not reach the town due to bad road.

"Today, we are here, 26 kilometre of road with best quality," Prof. Solution said, expressing satisfaction on the completion of the road that used to take some two to four hours to get to in less than 20 minutes.

He recalled that there are some three local governments that he took a personal pledge to develop including Awka North, Okpoko in Onitsha South, and Nzam in Anambra West.

Awba-Ofemili, he said, is a major food basket of Nigeria but no body could access it before now, due to bad and inaccessible road.

The elated governor said that today history is unforgettable, because it was a promise made, and promise kept, being the first-ever tarred road lead and entering Awba-Ofemili since the creation of man.

Soludo warned against putting filths into the drainage and its free flow to make the new road to last upto some 20 years.

He promised to recruitment more teachers and send additional teachers to all the public schools in Awba-Ofemili, saying that he wants Awba-Ofemili to benefit fully from technologically advanced school system that is free.

On the health centre, Gov. Soludo said that Anambra State government would renovate the centre with accompanying doctors to make it easier for dwellers and pregnant women to have easy access to medical doctors.

"Pregnant women in Anambra now have free delivery including cesarean operations, to reduce mortality rate," he said, stressing that they have recruited over 1000 medical practitioners since coming to office and Awba-Ofemili will benefit from these recruitment.

Further, Soludo urged well-to-do indigenes of Awba-Ofemili to also join hands with the government by paying visits to the public schools around the town to contribute their quota and the town will be better for it.
