Zambians decide 2021: President Lungu concedes defeat - ITREALMS

The incumbent president of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Lungu has accepted defeated in the presidential general election on August 12, reports ITREALMS.

Mr. Lungu, ITREALMS gathered had garnered some 1,814,201 votes while his closest rival, Hakainde Hichilema got 2,810,757 votes to emerge according to electoral body, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) as the newest president on the continent.
ITREALMS also gathered that President Edgar Lungu conceded defeat in a nationwide broadcast monitored on TV1.

Lungu said he would comply with the electoral provisions for peace to reign and transition to commence.

Political observer in the country, Juliet Makwama told ITREALMS that this is the fourth political party to rule Zambia after independence.

“First it was United National Independence Party (UNIP), followed by the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy MMD, and then Patriotic Front PF and now United Party for National Development (UPND) turn to rule Zambia,” she said.

Further, ITREALMS was told that the president elect, ‘HH’ got a clear win because he “penetrated the whole country if you critically look at the results.”

ITREALMS equally gathered that the former ruling party made so many mistakes and even campaigned for the opposition thinking they were killing the opposition.

“The final blow was the youth vote,” she declared.

ITREALMS recalls that Hakainde Hichilema is a Zambian businessman and politician who is the President-elect of Zambia. His emergence came after he contested five previous elections, precisely in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016, he won the 2021 presidential election with 2,810,757 votes, which is over 59% of the total vote.

The 59 year old Hichilema, ITREALMS gathered, is a alumni of The University of Zambia, and University of Birmingham.
