AASDU Presidency: Ebeledike takes over from Osakwe, promises prudence, peaceful co-existence - ITREALMS

The newly elected Executive Committee of the Association of Anambra State Development Unions (AASDU) led by Sir Amechi Ebeledike as president, has been inaugurated, reports ITREALMS.

Sir Ebeledike took over from the immediate past president, Chief Barrister Vincent Osakwe after a presentation of certificate of returns and swearing of new exco on Sunday in Lagos.


The event took place on Sunday, May 10, at the Villa Angelia Event Centre, Ikoyi-Lagos, barely two months after the election was held on March 14, 2021 at Enuguwu-Ukwu Unity Hall, Amowo-Odifin, Lagos.

ITREALMS gathered that to work with Sir Ebeledike in the new dispensation includes the first Vice President, Nze Basel Osuokwu; second Vice President, Chief Ugochukwu Ofodile; General-Secretary, Barr. Ubaka Nwonwu; Assistant General Secretary, Barr. Nnaemeka Emenari; Treasurer, Dr. Ernest Udemba; Financial Secretary, Mr. Chukwudi Nwankwo; Director of Social, Nze Felix Alajemba to be assisted by Comrade Chinedu Agina;

The post of the Publicity Secretary was won by Mazi Chidi Abajue, to be assisted by Chief Azuka Ibeanu, and Mr. Clement Nnadozie won the post of Chief Provost, while Chief Patrick Osakwe, Hon. Uchenna Iloabuchi, Engr. Henry Beresford-Cole, Ichie Ik Muo, Sir Eric Nwafor, Sir Chris Eze, and Engr. Marcel Okpala emerged as the Ex-Officio members.

ITREALMS also gathered that some six offices were return unopposed, including the post of the third Vice President, Ichie Mezie Okoye; second Assistant Secretary, Okolo Umumbo; Assistant Treasurer, Chief Goddy Ezenwanne; Legal Adviser, Barr. Okwudili Obiagwu; Assistant Legal Adviser, Barr. Victor Nwakasi; and Assistant Provost, Mr. Ifeanyi Eze.

Chief Aikay Umeh, chairman of the Electoral Committee, confirmed this to 
ITREALMS and congratulated all the winners of behalf of his team.

The executives later took oath of office as administered by a seasoned lawyer and patron, Chief Barr. Sam Ositadinma Egbuchunam.

In his acceptance speech, the new AASDU President, Sir Amechi Ebeledike promised his administration will be prudent in the management of affairs of the association and specifically finances and solicited for more collaborations from the membership.

Earlier, the outgoing president, Chief Osakwe had enumerated the achievement of his three but four years in office due to COVID-19 related reasons to include successfully obtaining land judgement in favour of AASDU and immense growth of available fund.

Osakwe noted that Anambra State with some 181 towns is a huge responsibility and appreciated the support he received during his tenure. 

He also reminded members that election has come and gone, but AASDU must exist and should for the betterment of Anambra State and mostly those indigenes living in Lagos State.

Members of the Board of Trustees and AASDU patrons led by former president, Chief C.C. Ifeanyi, aka Ichie Nnadozie n’Ihiala, commended AASDU, the outgoing leadership and incoming for holding forte to ensure this inauguration preceded by elections were peaceful.

On the entourage of Chief Ifeanyi included former president, Chief Emma Anyadike, Chief Barr. Sam Egbuchunam, Chairperson, Anambra State Women Association Lagos (ASWAL) Dr. Barr. Nkiru Ifekwem, among others.

Also reacting to the successful inauguration, Ichie Ike Muo, PhD, who was elected as ex-officio from Igbo-Ukwu, advised AASDU members that the elections are over and it is now time for governance.

“Let us think and move forward. Nobody drives a car by looking at the rear mirror,” he said.

ITREALMS further gathered that the inauguration was equally witnessed by leadership of various South-Eastern states and Igbo speaking communities in Lagos, including the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene, to name a few.
