The Anambra State Government has revealed that schools in the state, would open for full academic activities from February 1, 2021, reports

Although the teachers are expected to resume on January 18 to enable them prepare for this term.

Gov. Willie Obiano, who announced this during his broadcast at the Governor’s Lodge, Onitsha, explained that the extension was to enable the principals and teachers to prepare for the return of the children to schools.

The governor said this during a broadcast that it was because the state recorded 110 new case of COVID-19 between Dec. 7, 2020 and Jan.11, 2021.

According to him, the state has revived its testing capacity and brought the total number of tests carried out so far to 13,412.

“All government offices must observe the standard COVID-19 protocols – washing of hands at the entrance, wearing of facemasks, regular use of hand sanitisers and strict observance of social distancing.

“Nobody will be allowed into any government premises without properly wearing a face mask. No one should step outside their homes without wearing a facemask.

“The investment we made in setting up an Oxygen Production plant at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, COOUTH, Amaku had started paying off.

“When we made that investment, we had no idea that sooner than later, Oxygen would become such a priceless commodity.

“Today, I am delighted to announce a donation of 450 Cubic meters of oxygen to select hospitals in the state to help out in the fight against the pandemic.

“The modalities for distributing the commodity shall be worked out and announced by the Ministry of Health.

“Churches and other religious organisations are advised to set up Action Teams and go back to the practices that helped us in the first phase of the pandemic.

“We shall align with any policy on a possible nationwide curfew by the Federal Government to ensure effective compliance.

“Our test centres are active and ready to handle cases within impressive turnaround time,’’ Gov. Obiano noted.
