Ambassador Donald emerges new CEO @Skoll Foundation - ITREALMS

ITREALMS:
The Skoll Foundation Board of Directors has announced the selection of the former Ambassador Donald H. Gips as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Skoll Foundation, reports ITREALMS.

Don, ITREALMS gathered, brings a depth and breadth of experience to both sustain and elevate the Skoll Foundation’s work supporting social entrepreneurship to create lasting global social impact. His distinguished and diverse global experience made him the ideal candidate to navigate our work championing social entrepreneurs and other innovators.

"In our search, we put a premium on finding a leader whose character would serve as a source of inspiration to our community. We are confident we have found such a person," part of an official statement available to ITREALMS read.

Don is a truly humble leader, praised by colleagues for his unassailable integrity, empowering management style, collaborative nature, exceptional listening skills, and positivity. He has been trusted and tested at the highest levels of both public and private sectors and is a highly sought after thought partner.

Don comes to the Skoll Foundation from the Washington, D.C.-based Albright Stonebridge Group, founded by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, where he leads the firm’s Africa Practice. At ASG, he consults with companies, entrepreneurs, and foundations investing across Africa in efforts ranging from renewable energy and digital technologies to gender parity and food security.

Previously, Don served as U.S. Ambassador to South Africa under President Obama where he managed more than 1,000 staff and a budget of over $600 million across multiple government agencies.

Before becoming Ambassador, Don served as Director of Presidential Personnel in the Obama White House. President Obama trusted Don with one of the most critical assignments in his presidency: hiring the most diverse administration in U.S. history. Don directed the effort to vet and select 3,000-plus political appointments from a pool of more than 400,000 applicants.

One of Don’s earliest professional experiences was helping design and create a $650 million start-up government corporation to promote community service. This eventually became the AmeriCorps program, still operational today. He also served in the Clinton Administration as Chief Domestic Policy Advisor to Vice President Al Gore and Chief of the International Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission.

Early in Don’s career, he was the recipient of a Rockefeller Fellowship, awarded to recognize leadership potential. Don developed a clean water project with Sarvodaya, a leading social enterprise, and managed a refugee camp in Sri Lanka.

Don has extensive experience in business and finance having served as Group Vice President of Global Corporate Development for Level 3 Communications and Management Consultant to Fortune 500 companies at McKinsey & Company.

Don will remain on the boards of the Zayo Group, a fiber and internet infrastructure service provider that has grown from start-up to publicly listed industry leader; Liquid Telecommunication, a Pan-African provider of fiber and telecommunications services led by Strive Masiyiwa, one of Africa’s preeminent entrepreneurs and philanthropists; and the President’s Council on International Affairs at Yale University.

Don received an MBA from the Yale School of Management where he was honored as a Donaldson Fellow and received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University.

In a world that is increasingly complex, the depth of Don’s networks, knowledge, and capacity for forming meaningful partnerships make him a perfect fit to both nurture the Foundation's distinctive contributions to social entrepreneurship and unlock new approaches to help scale the impact of our work.

Don will officially join us effective early April. Many of you will have the opportunity to meet him at the Skoll World Forum on Social EntrepreneurshipApril 9-12 in Oxford.

We want to express our deep gratitude to Richard Fahey for his interim leadership. His dedication allowed us the time to find the best person for the job moving forward.

Most of all, we thank you for your ongoing commitment to solving the world’s most pressing problems.
