Anambra 2017: Monarch wants to unseat Gov. Obiano

The traditional ruler of Awka-Etiti in Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Angus Chukwuma Ojukwu, has concluded plans to unseat the incumbent, Governor Willie Obiano in the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, reports ITRealms.

Ojukwu, ITRealms gathered has a contentious monarch tussle in Awka Etiti, following the death of his father, who was hitherto the traditional ruler of the town. He was also the immediate past assistant national secretary of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Disclosing this to ITRealms, Igwe Ojukwu said he would contest the poll on the platform of the Mega Progressive Peoples Party (MPPP), a relatively unknown party.

According to him, the administration of Governor Obiano is visionless, stressing that his ambition was aspire to take over from Obiano.

“Governor Willie Obiano’s administration has not improved the welfare of the average person in the state, thus the need for change. My objective is to bring light to Anambra State. It is time for light to shine in our state. This is what the present administration has not been able to do. I am poised to do it,” he said.

In a ceremony organised in his country home in Awka-Etiti, Ojukwu in the company of the State Executive Council of the MPPP led by Simon Anidike, reeled out a 10-point agenda which, he said, would form his blueprint for the governance of Anambra State, if elected.

These include free and compulsory primary and secondary education, free maternal/child care, electricity for all, potable water for all, adequate security network, industrialisation, infrastructural development, employment generation, agriculture and investment.

But some political observers in Anambra State said that Igwe Ojukwu may have contravened the laws guiding the traditional institutions, which requires absolute abstinence from partisan politics.

While another set of observers said that since his Igweship is still in contention, he may have lost the bid and decided to confront the administration through political means.
