Accountant-General absconds, may derail Okowa’s inauguration in Delta

The Delta State's Accountant-General, Cyril Agbele has reportedly absconded few hours to the inauguration of the newly elected governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, reports ITRealms.

This, ITRealms also gathered from sources at Government House Asaba may derail the May 29, 2015 handover ceremony, even as Mr. Agbele could not be reached on phone with a purported switched off.

ITRealms equally gathered that Agbele’s is already affecting the programmes of the transition committee, it was however alleged that Accountant’s abscondment was due to pressures from Okowa’s camp.

Contrary to insinuations that Gov. Uduaghan mounted pressure on Agbele for the release of funds, while Government House source told ITRealms that the disappearance of the Accountant General was not unconnected to the influence of some hawks in the camp of Okowa.

The funds earlier requested for release by Uduaghan from the Accountant-General were for security agencies, the state's inauguration committee and the transition committee of the governor-elect.

But the hawks in the Okowa camp were said to have bent on creating problems for Okowa and are thus using every available means to hinder a successful transition.

"As at today, the state cannot fund the inauguration of Okowa. And we see this as a political move by some hawks in the team of Okowa to create problem for him,” sources told ITRealms.

A source in Okowa's camp said: "The initial perception of a hostile relationship with Uduaghan appears to have failed as the two of them have been getting on well and are headed towards sustaining the camaraderie.

"This has been a source of worry to a lot of them who have been looking for every opportunity to create chaos and then make money through that means. The disappearance of the AG is the height of it all," a concerned Deltan lamented.
