OAU to host TEDxIfe 2012

Plans have been concluded to ensure a successful hosting of the 2012 edition of the TEDxIfe in the educational city of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state on April 27, 2012.

ITRealms Online recalls that TEDxIfe is an independently organized event, operated under license from TED.

The event with the theme “Create/Redefine/Change” would feature 12 of leading thinkers, innovators, artists and entertainers, while the audience would consist of young Nigerians and students enthusiastic about art, creativity, the web and technology.

The organizer and chief host of TEDxIfe, Mr. Emmanuel Iduma reiterated his passion for the event, saying that seeing change happen in Nigeria and Africa is delightful.

“I strongly believe that these key areas; art, creativity, the web and technology are drivers of the change we are part of," he declared.

He explained that though this is not the first time TEDx is happening in Nigeria, but has been strategically planned to assume the most publicized and biggest of all the events so far.

“For me, I am not merely passionate about organizing an event. I am passionate about talking about change in practical terms," he asserted.

Iduma noted that speakers would include the co-founder of Nigeria’s hottest job website, Opeyemi Awoyemi; the founder of an art collective, Emeka Okereke; a top radio show host, Tosyn Bucknor; acclaimed political cartoonist, Mike Asukwo, among many others like Victor Ehikhamenor, Qudus Onikeku, Gbenga Sesan, Chineze Anyaene, Tolu Ogunlesi, Segun Adefila, Eghosa Imasuen, Omotola Fawunmi.

According to him, TEDx is a programme that brings people together to share a TED-like experience, adding that at a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers would combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

The TED conference, he said, provides general guidance for the TEDx programme but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
