Computer Warehouse boosts NACOSS with hands-on visit

THE Computer Warehouse Group has given a boost to the National Association of Computer Science Students (NACOSS), University of Ibadan chapter with a donation and facility tour of its subsidiaries to get first-hand experience.

Head, Corporate Communications, CWG, Mr. Chidi Okpala, in a press statement made available to ITRealms Online said the students went on a tour of the company’s infrastructure as a preparatory step before their graduation and possible absorption into the corporate industry as most of them were at the final year of their studies.

The University of Ibadan NACOSS chapter president, Osibote Adetute, said that the choice of Computer Warehouse Group was based on its towering strength in the nation’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

“CWG was approached because of its strength within the ICT industry in Nigeria and as future experts, we believed this exposure to the facilities and expertise of CWG will afford us the opportunity of having some form of hands on experience before getting into the industry,” Adetute said.

Welcoming the students earlier to CWG’s corporate head office, the Group’s General Manager, Operations, Mr. Simon Agi, gave an abridged position of CWG in the corporate market, pointing out that CWG plays a key role in hardware and infrastructure, communications as well as software aspects of most businesses across the banking, telcos and manufacturing industries and have become a leader in the corporate market.

He also pointed that the company’s offices span across the African continent with physical presence in Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda.

Mr. Agi informed the students that CWG’s core policy on promoting education has become an important element of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

ITRealms Online gathered that from CWG’s corporate head office, the students made their way to the hardware and infrastructure arm of the company, where Dayo Abegunde, the Assistant General Manager (AGM) Computer Warehouse Limited (CWL) was on hand to receive them.

Accompanied by a team of Business Managers, Abegunde exposed the students to the solutions and infrastructure driving CWL.

Mr. Abegunde pointed out the important relationship between hardware and software, saying that hardware cannot be sold unless a software is installed, which has to be purchased.

At the DCC Networks, the communications arm of CWG, the students had much more to see and listen to the General Manager, Mr. Oladipo Raji, who took the visitors round the Hub, Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) equipment and networking Unit of the company.

Further, he told the students accompanied by some lecturers that CWG’s strength as a foremost systems integration company in West Africa, is in providing core banking application for 11 out of the 24 banks.

DCC Networks, he also said, provides VSAT and Networking management solutions to almost all the banks in the country.

In addition to its VSAT business, DCC is laying fibre Optic cables across the country.

Mr. Raji later presented a financial donation to the association president on behalf of CWG as the company’s support towards the growth of education and computer science studies within the institution.

He expressed thanks to CWG for this gesture and expressed joy over the experience they had just had walking through the facilities of CWG.
