Glo emerges GSM coy of the year

Glo Mobile, the GSM arm of Globacom, has been voted once again, the GSM Company of the Year at the 2009 City People Awards for Excellence held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos recently.

According to the City People Media Group, organizers of the event, Glo Mobile won the GSM Company of the Year (2009) in appreciation of its remarkable contributions to the Nigerian telecommunications sector.

The organizers also noted that though Glo Mobile came in late after competition had commenced commercial operation for about two years, the company has proven itself as a network to be reckoned with, within just five years of operations.

“It has pioneered a lot of firsts since it came on board. It was the first to introduce Per Second Billing and it also crashed the price of SIM cards to the lowest level in the industry. The company also brought in new innovations like 3G Plus, Mobile Banking, Internet, GPRS, MMS, the Blackberry and Glo Fleet Manager. Glo Mobile is already rolling out services in some West African countries, beginning with the Republic of Benin”.

The City People Awards for Excellence rewards celebrate worthy Nigerians and corporate organizations that have excelled in their various areas of endeavour.

The 2009 edition recorded a quality attendance with the presence of Lagos and Bauchi State Governors and their spouses among others.

Glo Mobile is the digital mobile subsidiary of Globacom, Nigeria’s Second National Operator (SNO) which also provides other world class telecommunications solutions including national carrier service (fixed line), international gateway and on-line services.

A wholly Nigerian owned company, Globacom was founded on a vision of being the largest, most successful entertainment, information and telecommunications solutions provider, both in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Globacom is part of the well-established Mike Adenuga Group of companies which has significant interests in the Nigerian oil, real state, aviation and banking sectors.

Glo Mobile has won numerous awards since it began operations in August 2003.
