VIA, Everex unveil energy-saving StepNote-NC1501

Silicon chip technologies solution provider, VIA Technologies in collaboration with Everex, has taken energy-efficient widescreen into the United States Personal Computing (PC) retail market by unveiling StepNote NC1501 notebook.

The product expected to cost $499 about N65,000 has the appearance of a typical, modern-day laptop, featuring the Windows Vista Home Basic operating system, 15.4” widescreen display with DiamondBrite Technology, built-in wireless Local Area Network (LAN) and Digital Video Display (DVD) burner.

A press statement endorsed by Director of Marketing at Everex, Mr. Paul Kim and Vice President, Corporate Marketing at VIA Technologies, Mr. Richard Brown, showed that the Everex StepNote NC1501 key features include a VIA 1.5 Gega Hertz (GHz) M-processor performance punch with DirectX 9.0 graphics, DDR2 system memory and built-in wireless connectivity.

They said that at the centre of this unique offering, is the VIA C7-M processor, designed to provide ultra-low power consumption, advanced security features and 1.5GHz performance at a mere 12W peak power.

Vice President of Sales for Everex, Mr. John Lin, said it’s obvious that the social awareness of energy conservation has never been higher.

“However, unlike many eco-friendly products targeting a small, niche audience, Everex believes that a far greater environmental impact can be reached through the acceptance of mainstream products such as our StepNote NC1501. That’s why we specifically created a no-compromise notebook with mass appeal,” he said.

He added that the Everex NC series notebooks are expected to aid users in reducing their overall electricity usage while lowering the total cost of ownership, stressing that two companies, saw the usage of VIA enhanced powersaver and twin turbo as technologies that allow the laptop to dynamically transit between intermediate power states, providing users with 20 per cent longer battery life than comparable systems.

According to Mr. Brown, VIA was delighted that Everex has successfully combined the latest technologies on the market with an environment-friendly approach, noting that by extending their NC series of notebooks based on the ultra power efficient VIA C7-M processor, consumers now have greater opportunity to opt for more sustainable computing.

He pointed out that StepNote features include the genuine Windows Vista home basis edition operating system, VIA Chrome9 for graphics with memory base of 512 Megabytes DDR2 533MHz SDRAM as well as Hard Disk Drive of 60GB, 5400RPM SATA among others.
