IETF, NeuStar sign two-year deal

Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the NeuStar Secretariat Services (NSS), have signed a two-year deal to ensure the effective administrative support infrastructure that would meet the needs of the growing IETF community.

The agreement signed December 15, was the outcome of extensive discussions and consultations between the IETF community and the IETF Administrative Support Activity (IASA) - a group created in April 2005 to examine ways of making better the IETF’s administrative operations in support of the task force’s standards process and technical activities.

The two-year services agreement with NSS was endorsed on behalf of IASA by the President of Internet Society (ISOC), Lynn St. Amour, and Senior Vice President and Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of NeuStar Inc, Mr. Mark Foster, representing NSS in the transaction.

Part of the agreement stipulates that NSS would begin work immediately on managing the IETF’s secretariat, meetings, and document and data management services.

Lynn St. Amour told newsmen after signing the agreement with NeuStar, that ISOC was delighted to be able to bring this new level of support to the IETF.

Also, NeuStar had earlier reached agreement with the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), to acquire the assets of CNRI subsidiary Foretec Seminars Inc - the incumbent secretariat service provider.

Created to ensure the utilization, maintenance, preservation and protection of IETF intellectual property for the benefit of the task force, IETF is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet.

President CNRI, Mr. Robert Kahn, and Lynn St. Amour, as settlers on behalf of their respective organizations, authorized the CNRI part of the agreement.
