ITEdge wins AISI award

West Africa’s leading technology business magazine IT Edge has been
announced as one of the winners in the ‘2005 AISI Media Awards.’

The awards are a UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) sponsored award geared at encouraging ICT diffusion across the continent. It was first introduced in 2003.

“Congratulations! You have been selected as a winner in the 2005 AISI Media Awards,” the media organisation Knowledge Media International (KMI) Limited (publishers of IT Edge print and www.itedgenews.com) was officially notified in an email signed by Afework Temtime ICT Team, DISD/ECA.

IT Edge was selected for the ‘2005 AISI/IICD Local Content Category.’

Since it debuted about a year ago, IT Edge print and www.itedgenews.com have won critical acclaim as the sub-region’s major voice on ICT reporting.

The online publication www.itedgenews.com is updated every Monday morning with an increasingly growing global audience now in excess of 75, 000 every week.

Through building a formidable network of offices and reporters, KMI quietly has been able to news-content delivery on technology business as they affect the ECOWAS sub-region in its French and English print and online publications.

The organisation maintains agency offices in Freetown (Sierra Leone), Accra (Ghana), Germiston (South Africa) and another is due for Abidjan later in October.

The AISI Media Awards were introduced in 2003 to encourage more informed coverage of the information society and ICT for development issues in Africa as part of ECA’s Information Society Outreach and Communication Programme.

The programme is currently supported by the International Development Research Center (IDRC), the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), the Open Society Initiative for Western Africa (OSIWA) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ).

Meanwhile, IT Edge will be offering media support as Content Partner to
AITEC 2005 holding in Accra, Ghana from 21 - 23 September 2005 at the
La Palm Beach Hotel.

Themed “Computing & Communications for Business in West Africa,” this year’s event is targeting business executives and ICT professionals/users to assist CEOs have better understanding of the strategic relationship between their businesses and ICT resources. For
ICT professionals, it is aiming to help them expand their knowledge and skills as applied to best practices in business management.

ICT Procurement Management AITEC 2005 areas of Focus include Legal & Contractual considerations, e-Governance, ICT architecture, best practice in ICT standards, business process automation, leadership and business/ICT alignment, ICT security and outsourcing among others. Exhibitors include Spacefon, CWG (Ghana Limited) and GT.
