Mele Kyari, a geologist and Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has dug his way into the tunnel of history. Within a space of two months, he announced the successful revamp of two refineries.

In November 2024, Port Harcourt refinery came on stream. The following month, December, Warri refinery burst back to life. Both are not performing optimally, yet. But the journey has only just begun. Kaduna refinery is projected to begin production later this year. And if all goes well, a substantial percentage of the nation’s local petrol consumption would be sourced in-country.

The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has enjoined Nigerians to pray for divine intervention in the face of efforts by unscrupulous oil marketers to thwart the operations of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, following the previous sabotage of Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries.

The respected clergyman made the call for nationwide prayers during the November 2024 Abuja Special Holy Ghost Service themed 'Total Restoration', which held in the capital city. While Adeboye did not explicitly name the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, his remarks echoed the ongoing attempts by oil marketers to prevent the refinery from functioning as it was designed to.

Sen. Lokpobiri denies authorising NNPCL to stop running refineries - ITREALMS

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri Ph.D, has refuted claims that he authorised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to stop running its own refineries and focus solely on equity participation, reports ITREALMS.
A press statement available to ITREALMS and personally endorsed by Senator Lokpobiri said that his attention has been drawn to statements credited to Engr. Kamoru Busari, Director of Upstream in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, who represented him at a recent conference in Lagos.

The Senate has dismissed media reports claiming that it will expose all “frauds associated with the contracts and management of the Turn Around Maintenance of the nation’s refineries.”

A news report last week claimed that the Senate through its Ad-hoc Committee on Investigation of Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) in the nation’s refineries has vowed to “expose all frauds associated with the contracts and management of the process.”

The Government of Saudi Arabia has pledged to invest in the revamp of Nigeria’s refineries, as well as provide financial support to sustain the government’s foreign exchange reforms.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris in a press statement available to 
ITREALMS quoted the Saudi Crown Prince, HRH Mohammed bin Salman as pledging these at a bilateral meeting with President Tinubu on the sidelines of the Saudi-Africa Summit in Riyadh.
