Advocacy for the green economy was seen as discriminatory and condescending - the rich countries telling the poor South how to manage their affairs for the benefit of human kind.
It was considered a call for sacrifice by the poor countries to mitigate projected risk to the global climate, while the present state of the earth climate was to a considerable extent the consequence of uninhibited industrialization by the wealthy countries.
