NDPC in strategic MoUs with BPP, NGF to bolster data privacy, procurement integrity - ITREALMS

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), reports ITREALMS.

The partnerships are designed to embed rigorous data protection and privacy standards across Nigeria’s public sector and subnational institutions.

During the signing ceremony with the BPP, the National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, lauded the Bureau's leadership for prioritizing data governance.

“Data privacy is a global imperative for building trust and credibility within the digital ecosystem,” Dr. Olatunji stated. “The NDPC remains committed to supporting the integration of robust data protection standards within Nigeria’s procurement sector.”

Responding, the Director-General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to ethical data management. He noted that as the government embraces technology, the need to safeguard sensitive information becomes paramount.

“We recognize that the unlawful disclosure of government information is a criminal offense,” Dr. Adedokun remarked, emphasizing the need for global best practices in compliance.

To kickstart the collaboration, Dr. Olatunji presented 50 Virtual Privacy Academy vouchers to BPP staff to support professional development. Dr. Adedokun welcomed the gesture and further proposed expanding these training opportunities to the Bureau’s 453 procurement officers nationwide to ensure total compliance.

In a parallel development, the NDPC secured a landmark agreement with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to deepen privacy frameworks at the state level.

Dr. Olatunji highlighted that state-level compliance is a catalyst for national progress, stating:

“Strengthening privacy frameworks across our states accelerates nationwide adoption, enhances investor confidence, and attracts Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).”

The Director-General of the NGF, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, described the partnership as a strategic step toward securing Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and advancing responsible data governance at the subnational level.

To translate these agreements into immediate action, the NDPC has established dedicated working groups with both the BPP and the NGF. These teams are tasked with developing actionable frameworks to ensure the swift and effective implementation of the MoUs.
