The youth groups across the Delta South Senatorial District have declared their unwavering support for Dr. Austin Orette, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, warning that any attempt to prolong the tenure of the incumbent or the ruling party will exacerbate the 'agony' of the people, reports ITREALMS.
In a jointly signed statement, the youths declared that the socioeconomic future of Delta South "rests on a rigorously vocal, vibrant, and honest lawmaker" who can effectively champion the district's peculiar challenges on the national stage. They argued that the current leadership has failed to meet this critical threshold.
"Dr. Austin Orette’s ambition is plainly not for himself," the statement asserted. "It is a mission born of a genuine desire to serve the wonderful people of Delta South, who have been consistently shortchanged in the grand scheme of governance."
During the comprehensive stakeholders' meeting, the youths applauded Dr. Orette for demonstrating "solid legislative and administrative gifts," describing him as a leader who understands the mechanics of governance.
"Dr. Austin Orette is a resourceful and persistent organizer. He is hospitable to new ideas and possesses the bridge-building capacity that Delta South desperately needs," they emphasized.
The youths highlighted Dr. Orette's blueprint for the district, which they believe is the "best possible path in 2027" to address entrenched poverty and underdevelopment. The agenda is focused on creating a "fast start" for neglected federal projects, fighting insecurity, and combating the pervasive "despair, dangerous feelings of helplessness, and dependence" that currently dominate the district.
The leader of the Delta South Youth Movement (DSYM), Amos Ebiakpo, who read the statement, detailed an extensive progressive platform that Orette represents, including: Low-interest loans to encourage local economic projects; Advocacy for a stable national budget and unemployment benefits; Monetary standard reforms and advocacy for a new constitution.
Infrastructure development: "Dr. Austin Orette will lobby persuasively... improve roads and schools, develop parks, and clear waterways. He will also ensure the building of critical amenities such as hospitals, gas, sewage disposal, and electric power plants, dams, canals, reclamation, and flood control projects."
The youths fiercely scolded those "shouting continuity" as if they were "perverse and backward schoolboys," urging them to "perish the dream of a second term" for the current representation.
The DSYM statement made it clear that they would have nothing to do with the ruling party (APC/PDP, contextually) or groups supporting the "old order" that has plunged Delta South into its current state of underdevelopment.
The youth leader, Amos Ebiakpo, concluded with a stark warning: "Backing the incumbent or any member of the ruling party in the district could only prolong the agony of the district."
