ITREALMS Online has exclusively uncovered a critical and dangerous thermal defect in the popular itel A50C (Model A669L) smartphone, which poses a direct and immediate safety risk to consumers.

The exclusive investigation reveals that the device, despite holding the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Type Approval Certificate No. 592, is suffering from severe operational failure.
The device has been found to enter a state of thermal runaway immediately upon activation, becoming dangerously hot, too hot to hold, even after being powered off for hours.

This phenomenon, driven by a personal user experience and corroborated by multiple online complaints, confirmed the phone is prone to an immediate, severe overheating that forces an emergency shutdown, indicating a fundamental failure in the battery management or thermal design.

This issue directly challenges the regulatory framework established to protect Nigerian consumers. The NCC’s Type Approval standards are explicitly intended to ensure device safety and quality; yet, a product certified under Certificate No. 592 is now demonstrating a hazardous defect.

The type-approval certificate is held by Carlcare Development Nigeria Limited, making the company the primary entity accountable for the device's quality and safety in the Nigerian market.

The severity of the defect indicates a clear breach in the quality assurance process for a product officially sanctioned for consumer use.

ITREALMS made repeated attempts to secure an official response and commitment to public safety from the responsible parties, but was met with silence and bureaucratic stonewalling:

For instance, at Carlcare Development Nigeria Limited, the initial attempts to contact the certificate holder yielded only a robotic response promising escalation, followed by over 24 hours of delay without any substantive official statement or action plan.

Following the failed outreach to Carlcare, ITREALMS contacted Mr. Olorun-nimbe Dolapo, Marketing Manager of itel at ATL, since Tuesday, November 18, with specific questions regarding the safety protocols and a potential recall.

As at the time of filing this story, Mr. Dolapo has not provided any official response to the questions sent to him.

This lack of response from both the certificate holder and the marketing leadership constitutes a serious abdication of corporate responsibility amidst a clear public safety crisis.

Given the immediate hazard posed by the thermal defect and the failure of the accountable company to respond, ITREALMS calls for immediate regulatory intervention.

The NCC must utilize its enforcement powers to protect Nigerian consumers and ensure that the Type Approval process remains a credible shield against unsafe digital devices.
