The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Mr. Antonia Guetress has approved the appointment of the 2025 members of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholders Advisory Group (MAG), including Ms. Inné, Anne-Rachel of Niger, and Nigerian Dr. Jimson Olufuye, reports ITREALMS.This is coming as Ms. Roach, Carol, who is the Bahamas’ Under Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs as the second term chair, while Mr. Martinsen, Ole-Martin from the host country of Norway and Policy Director for Digitalization and Emerging Technologies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the co-chair.
Ms Inne, who is the head, Consultant at D4D represents the Technical Community and Dr. Olufuye, who is currently the chair, Advisory Council of the Africa ICT Alliance represents the private sector. Both are on their first term respectively at the MAG in addition to some other five Africans.
ITREALMS recalled that noteworthy is that the MAG 2025 was appointed through an exceptional approach, following the public nomination process from the MAG and Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) alumni network rather than the traditional broad community nominations process.
This approach, ITREALMS gathered, ensured that the specific expertise and experience gained through the MAG and WGIG work strategically guides the IGF’s preparations for the 20-year review process of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) and the IGF mandate.
This experienced MAG will help navigate the unique challenges of planning for the 20th annual IGF meeting, which will take place in June 2025 with limited preparation time, and will also provide guidance on strengthening the future MAG’s long-term working modalities.
