2024 World Health Day: Lagos ACOMIN commemorates with walk for life, flier distributions - ITREALMS

The Lagos chapter of the Association of Civil Society on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has commemorated the 2024 World Health Day with a number of activities, including walk for life, reports ITREALMS.

This year’s theme: ‘My Health, My Right’ took a walk for life within the State’s Secretariat from Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa Ikeja through distribution of fliers, enlightenment talks to people on prevention and controlling malaria in their various communities.


Welcoming the team, the Director, Disease Control Directorate, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Rotimi Agboolagorite appreciated ACOMIN’s effort for being part of this year programme in celebrating the World Health Day with the state as a good initiatives in eradicating malaria from the communities.


Dr. Agboolagorite emphasized the need for organisation to collaborate with the Ministry in eradicating malaria from the state, assured carrying ACOMIN along with their subsequent programmes to foster better cooperation in controlling malaria in the centre of excellence.


The Director, Disease Control Directorate also enjoined ACOMIN team to render assistance in human resources or other supports especially in Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), as State majorly focused on the 20 Local Governments Areas.

"The Ministry of Health, State usually cover 20 local governments areas(LGA), ACOMIN can support with covering LCDAs," he said.


In her remarks, ACOMIN State Coordinator, Mrs Bunmi Tejumola said the team shifted attention from community to honour this year's World Health Day in Alausa, for the interest of the State.


Mrs Tejumola urged the Ministry to call on the organisattion for inclusion on the subsequent programmes in the State.


Equally, ACOMIN State Coordinator, used the opportunity to inform that the lead body of ACOMIN, Lagos has changed with an election few weeks ago with new executives to direct the affairs of the organisation for optimum impacts in the State.


Also speaking, the General Secretary, ACOMIN Lagos, Mr. Evans Enwefah said the organisation has firm and long relationship with the state in combating malaria spreads.


Stressing the need for more collaboration by the Ministry in involving ACOMIN in programme planning since they shared same objective of eradicating malaria from the state.


Further, Mr. Enwefah called for more inclusion of ACOMIN as part of plan for the state’s World Malaria Day cum other subsequent programmes in the State.


ITREALMS gathered the ACOMIN,Lagos held an election few weeks ago which gave birth to new executives to directs the affairs in the state which include ACOMIN State Coordinator Mrs Bunmi Tejumola, ACOMIN Treasurer, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ajayi, State Deputy Coordinator Mr. Jones Ihemenam, ACOMIN General Secretary, Mr. Evans Enwefah.

Highlights of the day were walking from Bero Hall within the Secretariat to Folarin Coker Clinic with a visit to one of the assistant directors, Dr. Muritala Sikiru while ACOMIN brandad T-shirt was presented to him, alongside the fliers distributed within the Alausa Secretariat, enlightenment talks to people on prevention and control of malaria.
