The Chairperson, Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo, has tasked policymakers to heed to this year's theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" on the commemoration of the 2024 International Women's Day by prioritising investment in women and children, reports ITREALMS.In a press statement available to ITREALMS by the Public Relations Executive, Lagos NIPR, Mr. Samuel O. Adeyemi, the chapter extended heartfelt congratulations to women across the state for their unwavering resilience, remarkable achievements, and invaluable contributions to society.
Adeyemi also quoted the chairperson, Mrs.. Nwankwo as emphasising the critical role women play in propelling social, economic, and political development.
"Despite the economic challenges, there is a tendency among policymakers to overlook vulnerable groups, particularly women and children," she said, asserting that investing in these groups will undoubtedly accelerate the economic recovery of Nigeria.
As said by her, amidst prevalent economic challenges, NIPR called upon women everywhere to persevere, recognising that their endeavours are pivotal in surmounting obstacles and fostering a more just and equitable world.
"The economic hardships faced by Nigerians have highlighted the resilience and resourcefulness of women, who often navigate unprecedented difficulties while balancing work, family, and community responsibilities with unwavering determination.
"We take immense pride in acknowledging the outstanding achievements of women in Lagos, often referred to as the "city of excellence." Particularly within our NIPR community, we commend the trailblazing efforts of Lagos NIPR women who have shattered barriers and assumed leadership positions on corporate boards. Their exemplary leadership serves as a beacon of inspiration for women aspiring to excel in the field of public relations and beyond.
"As we celebrate the progress made by women, we underscore the urgent need for heightened investment in women and children, especially during these challenging times. Empowering women economically, socially, and politically is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity for fostering sustainable development and inclusive growth," she said.
Pointing out that the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" resonates profoundly with the PR profession, which thrives on effective communication, collaboration, and inclusivity.
