NANTS breaks ground for milk factory @Gwagwalada Abuja - ITREALMS

The National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS) at the weekend, officially performed the ground breaking of its Milk Production Factory in Giri Community of Gwagwalada Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, reports ITREALMS.

Leading dignitaries to perform the exercise, the Director of Agriculture at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Commission), Dr. Alan Sy-Traore, applauded NANTS for living up to the expectations of its partnership project with the Commission.


According to Tauore, the factory was in line with ECOWAS Agricultural Policy on Livestock Value Chain, just as he assured of the Commission’s continuous collaboration with NANTS on trade and economic projects to enhance national economic development in Nigeria and ECOWAS region.

In a remark, the Deputy Director, Commercial Ruminant and Diary Production, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ibilade Akeem also applauded NANTS for this initiative and reassured on the Ministry’s readiness to partner with NANTS on meat and milk production.

As said by Akeem, the Milk Production Factory is in line with food security programme of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Welcoming guests to the occasion earlier, the National President, NANTS, Dr Ken Ukaoha, said the project is in partnership with ECOWAS with anticipated completion date set before end of 2025 and precisely within a 24 months deadline.

"We are hopeful of a befitting facility in the next 24 months duration of the project," he declared.
He explained that the factory when completed,, will have a training centre for young people, demonstration farm, waste conversion point, milk collation Centre, office accommodation, 24 hours electricity and water supply to name a few.

"The factory has security house, showroom for milk and dairy products, training center, folder demo plot, lairage, cattle milking shade, milking equipment store house, 2 offices, cold room, power house, water facility, toilet and shower facilities, etc," Ukaoha asserted.

In addition, the factory, he said, will ensure the production of hygienic milk towards enhancing food security and national economic development, as well as serve as a training ground for the students of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Abuja and other relevant institutions within and around the FCT as well as ensure job creation and youth empowerment
