Former finance minister, Chu SP Okongwu, dies @87 - ITREALMS

The former Minister of Finance, Chu Sonny Okongwu, has been confirmed died on Wednesday, January 12 at the age of 87, reports ITREALMS.

Popularly known as Chu Okongwu, he was a Nigerian economist and politician who was the Minister of National Planning, and then Minister of Finance during the Babangida administration between 1986 and 1990.

ITREALMS gathered that Chu Okongwu was born on 23 September 1934 in Nnewi, Anambra State and died on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.

Okongwu was the first of eight children, and attended St. Michael’s School, Aba between 1941 and 1946. 

He moved to Government College, Umuahia between 1947 and1951 and later attended Boston University where he studied economics.
