FCT to host 3rd ECOWAS Agric Summit - ITREALMS

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is set for the hosting of 3rd ECOWAS People’s Agriculture Budget Summit 2021, reports ITREALMS.

The summit, 
ITREALMS gathered, is a two-day event, holding at Hawthorn Suites, Abuja with participants from various parts of the continent and particularly West Africa, with the theme “The State of Public Financing for Agriculture in ECOWAS Member States.”
The summit organisation is led by ActionAid in association with other notable international non-governmental organisations including Oxfam, CNC, ONE campaign & Trust Africa in collaboration with the Secretariat and the ECOWAS Parliament Committee on Agriculture under the Fifth Legislature, fifth year.

“It is with great enthusiasm we welcome you to Abuja,” official of the summit had said.

ITREALMS also gathered that Pre – Summit Consultative Meeting, followed by the main summit at ECOWAS Parliament Building in Abuja.

In addition, 
ITREALMS gathered that there will be a post-summit consultative meeting on Wednesday.

ITREALMS, recalls that the objectives of the summit comprised but not limited to understand the state of public investment from each member country, progress made and challenges in the realization and implementation of 2014 Malabo Declaration.

Equally, the women farmers would be provided an opportunity for the ECOWAS Parliamentarians to interact with farmers from their countries.

Further, the summit would review the last Biennial Review Report and Performance of ECOWAS countries, highlight current situation in agriculture investment and expenditure within the region, its effect and impact alongside the AFCFTA and how best to increase the quantity and quality of agriculture budget for 2022/2023 fiscal year and make it better focused to benefit women and smallholder farmers in the ECOWAS region.

The summit would have participants from the ECOWAS Parliament Members of the Agriculture, Budget & Finance, and Legal & Judiciary and other Parliamentarians, Representatives from the Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Budget & National Planning and Finance, Senate and House Committees on Agriculture & Rural Dev, Appropriation, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Women farmers & farmers organizations, NGOs from ECOWAS member states, media partners and development partners.
