Sanwo-Olu, Pantami to co-chair NITMA 2021 - ITREALMS

The Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) are to co-ch
air the 2021 National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA), reports ITREALMS.

NITMA is organized annually by the umbrella association of Information Technology (IT) professionals, interest groups and stakeholders in the country, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).

Disclosing this to ITREALMS in Lagos on Monday, the President, NCS, Prof. Adesina Sodiya, said this year’s NITMA has been scheduled for Thursday, November 18 at MUSON Centre, Onikan Lagos.

He also said that other side attraction would include the launching of NCS education fund for innovation, research and development by His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman Zinox Technologies.
In choosing the awards, Prof Sodiya noted that the key areas and issues affecting growth in the sector and society were taken into consideration.

“For all awards, key criteria include IT specialisations, NCS standards and global best practices,” he said.

Some of the highlights at the forthcoming NITMA 2021 award categories include the Digital Governor of the year, IT personality of the year, IT Gold Merit of the year, IT Company of the year, Youth Innovator of the year and Professional and honourary fellowship conferment.

Sodiya explained for instance that professional fellowships confer on members of NCS who are recognized as authorities in their field of computing and have distinguished themselves through significant contribution to the growth of Information Technology through their expertise and activities.

“This year, we are having the highest number of conferees in the annual history of NCS, 51 and amongst the conferees would be the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamsat,” he declared.

While the honourary fellowship would be conferred on distinguished personalities for their dedication and exemplary service to IT growth and development in Nigeria, which this year goes to three individuals including Dr. Bayero Garba Agabi, founder of DigiVation Network; Chief Kayode Sobajo, founder/Chairman /CEO, HIIT Plc; and Mr. Tim. Akano, MD/CEO, New Horizons Plc.

On the IT Personality of the year, NCS President revealed that tech sector during the year. In 2021, nominees for this most prestigious award are: Mr. Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, General Partner/Co-Founder, Future Africa, Professor Stella Chiemeke, Vice Chancellor University of Delta, Mr. Kazeem Tewogbade MD/CEO Bluechips Technologies.

The Digital Governor of the year award, he said would be used to reward tremendous use and application of IT in governance to deserving executive governors.

He listed the nominees for this prestigious category to include His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State; His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuayi, Executive Governor, Enugu State and His Excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed, Executive Governor, Bauchi State.

While on the IT Gold Merit Award, NCS president revealed that Mr. Kashifu A. Inuwa, DG/CEO National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Dr. Bashir Jimoh, DG/CEO, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have been nominated for their innovative ideas towards moving IT to the next level among others.
