CLD warms up for Media Lawyers’ Network - ITREALMS

ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!

The Centre for Law and Democracy (CLD), with support from the Global Media Defence Fund run by UNESCO, is running the project on “Promoting the Establishment of Networks of Media Lawyers Globally” reports
ITREALMS.
The goal, ITREALMS gathered is to help lawyers working on freedom of expression and media law to create formal professional media lawyers’ networks at the national level.

The Legal Officer, Centre for Law and Democracy, Ms Laura Notess confirmed to
ITREALMS in a press statement that networks of that sort would be invaluable in bolstering legal protection for media freedom, building members’ expertise and collaborating to provide legal defence to journalists and media.

She also said that in order to create this off the table, a webinar to provide a general introduction to the concept of a media lawyers’ network, steps which could be taken to establish one and resources developed by CLD to support the formation of such networks has been slated for August 10, 2021.

According to her, the agenda includes an introduction, welcome and background to the project by the Executive Director of CLD, Toby Mendel, statement of purpose by UNESCO and ‘Benefits and Potential Activities of Media Lawyers’ Networks’ to be delivered by Notess herself.

Equally, there will be an open discussion and sharing experiences as well as resources available from CLD; Initial Steps to Creating a Network by Mendel before question and answers.
