Eagle Search to deploy SMS for emergency services

Lagos-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Eagle Search and Rescue Services Nigeria, is to deploy Short Messaging Services (SMS) for its emergency services offered to the informal sector of the nation’s economy, even as the company plans to create over 15,000 jobs nationwide.

The chief executive officer, Eagle Search and Rescue Services Nigeria, Chief Sunday Olubamidele Ajanaku, said in Lagos that his firm in effort at offering Nigerians free group life and accident insurance, especially in the informal sector, intends to take advantage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to achieve its goal.

One of the firm’s objectives, he said, including the creation of over 15,000 jobs nationwide from its services.

According to him, Eagle Search and Rescue Services Nigeria is an indigenous outfit incorporated to carry out business of general data and statistic services such as monitoring, searching, rescue, ambulance and medicare assistance to every victim.

This, he said, could be achieved by making available adequate and prompt medi-cares at all designated government and private hospitals to the reach of the masses almost at every location of accident scene across the country.

Additionally, he said, that his firm would carry out business of information, welfare and notice alerts to all Nigerians nationwide, especially during an emergencies.

While carrying out these services, Ajanaku noted that his firm would assist and give prompt rescue as well as payment of hospital cum medical bills and other associated benefits from the partnering insurance companies.

“Our business of sponsored information alert services include on general life and accident insurance scheme to all informal sector of the Nigeria economy,” he said, stressing that part of their assignment is to link up victims with their relations through a general data base and multiple purpose identification cards to be issued to the subscribers of the scheme at a very meager amount that is not in excess of N1000.

Therefore, Ajanaku pointed out that in ensuring that they deliver services promptly ICT would come to play, especially the use of SMS.

At present, he said, they are in discussion with some of the mobile telecommunications operators, whom they are holding to heart at the moment.

He insisted that the focus on informal sector was because their investigations have showed that majority of those that lose their lives during road accidents are mainly from this sector.

He listed other stakeholders in the project to include the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), AVRIS, Nigeria Red Cross Society, Federal and States Fire Services, Federal and States Traffic Management Agencies, Federal and States Ministry of Health, Media and federal and States Ministry of Education to name a few.

He noted that based on the reports from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s unemployed figure is about 12 million with most of them being the youths, which represented about 49.9 per cent of the population between the ages of 18 and 24 years old.

The Eagle Search and Rescue Services Nigeria, Ajanaku said, would employ not fewer than 15,000 youths between the ages of 18 and 40 before the end of June this year after the first phase of recruitment must have been completed.

As said by him, from this month of April, Eagle Search and Rescue Services Nigeria plans to recruit various personnel including writers, enumerators, house-to-house or office-to-office as well as market-to-market registrars, who would be collating information from subscribers free.

“The initial recruit of 7,200 is expected nationwide,” he said, advising that beneficiaries comprise those who may not be computer literate as plans have been made to accommodate them in the scheme.

He emphasised that those with computer knowledge are permitted to register online free of charge with an attachment of their recent passport photograph and blood group, genotype through www.eaglesearchng.com.

Ajanaku who was accompanied at the briefing by Pastor Ajisafe Adewunmi, Mr. Henry Ejionu of UBA Metropolitan Life, Executive Director, Mr. Oladipo Olunwemimo, general manager, Mr. Olumide Sampson Oja and consultant, Mr. Dele Adesogan, maintained that registration and data collation exercise for the scheme is expected to last for 60 days commencing from June this year.
