ALTON commends Etisalat for spurring competition

The Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has commended one of the nation’s mobile leading operators, Etisalat Nigeria, for spurring competition in the industry.

ALTON is the industry body for all licensed telecommunications providers of telecoms service in the country.

The association made this commendation when it paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Steven Evans and his management team in Lagos.

Chairman of the Association, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, noted that Etisalat’s vibrant role in stirring competition as well as setting the pace with its innovative packages in the industry is quite commendable.

“Etisalat’s consistent effort targeted at stirring competition is laudable. That your products and services have set you apart for innovation is never in doubt, we can only request that you continue to provide best quality services at affordable prices for Nigerians thereby staying true to the very essence of your exciting 0809ja brand,” he said.

Also, Adebayo pointed out that number portability, quality of service, interconnection rate, market competition amongst others are salient issues which the telecoms industry had to intensify efforts at resolving.

Responding, Mr. Evans while acknowledging the need for improved quality of service in the telecom sector said that without a healthy telecoms industry, many other areas of the economy would not be able to reach their potential.

“We will continue to invest heavily on our network so that we can achieve what is expected of us by Nigerians by delivering the best quality services,” he assured.

Evans also said that data is the next big focus of operators who appear to have delivered affordable voice services well and are still doing so.

“We are also going to intensify our efforts on delivering broadband services because it is very clear that broadband is the next big deal in terms of services to be delivered through GSM operators and we want to make sure that we are appropriately positioned to deliver,” he said.

Reaffirming Etisalat’s support and readiness to work with the association to achieve its objectives, Evans urged ALTON to continue in its efforts in influencing the government on the provision of infrastructure and regulation issues.

ITRealms Online recollects that ALTON’s objectives include promoting growth in the telecommunications sector, fostering inter-network cooperation and industry harmony thereby enhancing efficient and affordable telecommunications services delivery to users of these services.

Whereas Etisalat is the largest provider of telecommunications services in Africa and the Middle East and serves an ever increasing subscriber base of 110 million people across Africa, Middle East and Asia.

In Nigeria, Etisalat currently has unique products such as Easy Starter, Easy Cliq, Easy Net and Elite World with all offers coming with a wide array of creative and exciting features designed to satisfy all communications needs of its subscribers.
