GloFirst hits market October 1

Remmy Nweke

The Second National Operator (SNO), Globacom in collaboration with the First Bank Plc and Interswitch has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the introduction into the nation’s market a new product called GloFirst.

GloFirst, according to the chief operating officer (COO), Globacom, Mr. Mohammed Jameel, would be available as from October 1, this year.

Speaking at the signing ceremony to herald the partnership in Lagos, Mr. Jameel said it’s historical as he described the corporation as auspicious.

As said by him, all the three firms have common denominator in progressively repositioning the nation’s economy and improving the lives of the people, especially via GloFirst, a prepaid debit card from the three companies.

For the chief executive, First Bank Plc, Mr. J.M. Ajekigbe, they are proud to be part of this success story, saying they have continued to stand out as a national icon and an international player.

“GloFirst is in perpetuation of our tradition to champion smooth and efficient operation of the payment systems,” he said.

He also said that the product would ultimately enhance mobile banking (m-banking) and banking the ‘unbanked’ vast population through a variety of transaction windows.

He therefore lauded the partnership, saying it is in line with globalization trends, which engenders free flow of ideas, people, goods, services and capital thereby fostering integration of economies and societies.

“This partnership has facilitated the integration of telecommunication and banking, resulting in a synergy which ensures the provision of premium and seamless financial services to our customers,” Mr. Ajekigbe declared.

Commenting, Managing Director, InterSwitch, Mr. Mitchel Elegbe, noted that with this collaboration, his firm has not moved away from its primary role of providing enabling leadership model for Nigerian companies to leverage upon.

Rather, he said, InterSwitch has advanced its agenda for the Nigerian market with innovation such as GloFirst.

Executive Director, Retail Banking for Lagos and West at FBN, Mr. Remi Babalola, also assured on the GloFirst, saying its merit is enormous, as even without having an account with FBN.

He stressed that potential customers on the GloFirst must register to have it just as replacement in the case of lost would be replaced free of charge.

“GloFirst can be used in any Automated Teller Machine (ATM) as long as it has the InterSwitch endorsement, anywhere in the country,” he said.

Hi

This is Nana Akyea Me,sah. I read your comments on my article in Ghanaweb.com on the current trading of insults between Ghana and Nigeria.

I liked your comments. I also appreciated the important role people like you could play in this struggle for peace and development for our region. Unity is a sine qua non!

Only our enemies disagree with this for very obvious reasons. I wonder why our people kave not yet seen the light! The reason why I looked for you is because I am more of a militant than a writer and I believe after writing, conscious networking is equally essential.

I try to contact people who can play positive roles and to directly exchange views with them. After reading your post, I googled Results 1 - 100 of about 395 for JOURNALISTS FOR REGIONAL INTEGRATION (JORIN). (0.27 seconds) And it took me no time at all to gues you might be the great shepherddking of the post. Details below:

"Thank you so much Mr. Nana Akyea Mensah for your nice piece, and for the boldness and courage to pen it in a time like this. With people like you, there’s hope yet...

So, which will it be, soul brother/sister West African?
As for me and my professional colleagues in the JOURNALISTS FOR REGIONAL INTEGRATION (JORIN), a network of integration-minded journalists from various countries of West Africa, we prefer to build bridges, rather than burn them.
You can choose to do the same too, for the collective future of our children!
Thank you and God bless West Africa!"

Thank you too! Remmy. Please let's keep in touch and get our two peoples to unite and help the rest of the continent to do the same thing! The process did not grow as a natural process because of delibelirate sabotage. After fifty years of independence we even precipitate towords war rather than solidarity! We can no longer leave it to the hazard. We must consciously build this unity everyday in our own lives with LTC - Loving Tender Care!!!

Once more, thanks!
