Global e-payment experts for Card Expo-06

Estimated 15 experts of electronic payment (e-payment) drawn from various pedigrees in the global e-payment industry are billed to feature at this year’s annual Card Expo, slated to hold in Lagos.

These experts including Nigerians would be thrilling participants at the three-day event, which is the sixth edition. It has been scheduled between June 14 and 16, at the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) Center, Onikan-Lagos, according to the organisers.

According to the conference director at Intermarc Consulting, Mrs. Onajite Regha, this year’s theme, “Payment Card Return on Investment: Mind the gap, get smart,” would attract notables in the card business globally and reckons with enormous potentials for smart cards growth on the continent.

This, she said, includes the Managing Director, Interswitch Limited, Mr. Mitchell Elegbe, Chief executive, eTranzact Nigeria, Mr. Valentine Obi, chief executive, Nextzon business services, Mr. Mac Atasie, Mr Ayo Arise of Card Technologies Limited and the coordinator, National Cybercrime Working Group, Nigeria, Mr. Basil Udotai.

Also, Mrs Regha said Messrs Hans van Resberg, Mark O’Flyn, Roy Brederode and David Kaplan; of Fundamo South Africa, Verifome United Kingdom, Cash Axcees also of South Africa and Israeli Lipman in that order.

Director of South African-based ATM Africa, Mr. Dougla Gillan, along with Mr. Bukar Kyari of Valu Card Nigeria Plc, Mr. Ridwan Hansia of Diebold Dubai, Mr. Arno Viljeon of South African Bank Risk Intelligence, are also on the line-up for the event.

Equally on the list of speakers at the forthcoming annual forum are Ms Olfa Ounis of Axalto France, Mr Marwan Aasar from NPC Egypt and Mr. Tarek Hmaidan of Oberthur Card Systems, Dubai among others.

The conference director, accompanied by the managing partner, Mr. Adeyinka Adeyemi, further said that this year’s Card Expo has been planned to dwell on several issues affecting the e-payment industry, so as to enable investors have good return on investment.

“Participants would learn how to make money from card business and at the same time optimising investment in card technology,” she said.

The conference and exhibition to be declared open by the Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Turner Isoun, the director said, has been divided into different forums per day.

These include the card and e-payment forum, to be held on the first day. While on day two, there would be forums on security and standards, SIM and mobile services, interoperability and integration as well as ATM business.

On the third day, participants would be treated to ATM security forum, EMV forum, e-government and utilities forum.

According to her, a segment on the last day has been mapped out for product launch by participating organisations.

Commenting, Mr. Adeyemi informed that plans have been advanced to have on ground a media centre to facilitate the active participation of the nation’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) media at this year’s event.

He also said that the centre would be equipped with Internet-enabled Personal Computers to motivate the fourth estate of the realm in carrying out her avowed service to the society with ease.
