NCC holds Telecom Parliament Monday

LIVING up to its words, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) would Monday, July 25, take the 22nd session of the Telecom Consumer Parliament to Excellence Hotel and Conference Center, Ijaye – Isheri Road, Ogba in Lagos State.

Daily Champion, recalls that the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, had two months ago informed the parliamentarians that the next session in Lagos would go to Ikeja due to its predominant of the location, which have high, middle and low class subscribers of almost all telcos in the country.

Head, Public Affairs at NCC, Mr. Dave Imoko, informed that the session to be held in the state outside its Old Senate building at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), would commence at 2.00 p.m. prompt.

He noted that the monthly Telecom Consumer Parliament puts telecoms operators and the industry regulator on the spotlight of the consumers.

This edition, he said, would deal with the services of both fixed line and mobile operators.

Other issues such as those pertaining to Quality of Service (QoS), consumer rights protection, environmental impact assessment, interconnection, tariffs and universal service provision would also be discussed.

He said that audience would be drawn from major stakeholders in the industry, opinion leaders, public affairs and policy analysts, government officials and students.

Mr. Imoko therefore urged all telecoms services consumers as well as the public to attend this interactive programme, which he explained would be recorded for a network broadcast on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other television stations.

The parliament, it would be recalled, began in 2003 and has been held monthly in Lagos until last quarter of 2004 when NCC in conjunction with the house, recognized the need to take it closer to the people by holding it among the six geopolitical zones in the country.
