Danbatta plans wealth-creation with 8-point agenda




The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta has planned to create wealth during his first five-year office with 8-point agenda, reports ITRealms.
Danbatta who made this disclosure in Lagos, Wednesday at an international press conference and listed his eight-point agenda to include facilitate broadband penetration, improve Quality of Service (QoS), optimize usage and benefits of spectrum, promote ICT innovation and investment opportunities, facilitate strategic collaboration and partnership, protect and empower consumers, promote fair competition and inclusive growth as well as ensure regulatory excellence and operational efficiency.
According to Danbatta, his 8-point agenda is a strategic vision for the commission to run from 2015 to 2020, guided in the sideline of the change mantra of President Muhammadu Buhari.
On facilitation of broadband penetration, Danbatta said this was envisioned to provide and optimise access to and use of affordable fixed and mobile broadband everywhere in Nigeria, while the second on the list, the improvement of quality of service, is to promote the availability of reliable, interoperable, rapidly restorable critical information and communications technology infrastructure that are supportive of all required services.
For the third agenda, Danbatta assured that optimizing usage and benefits of spectrum in order to provide diverse and affordable Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services and ensure spectrum acquisition does not distort market competition.
On promoting ICT innovation and investment opportunities, the EVC noted that he is determined to improve the nation’s ability to compete in the global economy, through increased investment in youth and promotion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for the delivery of new business breakthrough.
On the fifth agenda, the new EVC exposed the vision to facilitate strategic collaboration and partnership based on developing effective partnership with relevant stakeholders to foster ICT for sustainable economic development and social advancement. Whereas his administration will protect and empower consumers from unfair practices through availability of information and education required to make informed choices in the use of ICT services.
By promoting fair competition and inclusive growth, Danbatta said, this agenda line would afford his administration to ensure a competitive market for communications services that fosters fair inclusion of all actors, in innovative ways that facilitate new investment, job creation and consumer satisfaction.
As said by him, all these would facilitate wealth creation through application of human knowledge and creativity is steadily outpacing wealth creation through extraction and processing of natural resources.
Knowledge, he said, has increasingly become an important means for value creation, hence with globalization and the technological revolution of the last few decades, knowledge has clearly become the key driver of competitiveness and is now profoundly reshaping the patterns of the world’s economic growth and activity.
