NGN: Stakeholders to brainstorm on migration

Operators and manufacturers from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Japan and other countries in the Asian region will be meeting at a major forum from Tuesday, April 7 to 10 in Colombo, Sri Lanka to debate how best to migrate to the Next Generation Networks (NGN) standardization.

ITRealms Online recalls that the Colombo event follows the recent World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly held in South Africa last October, which adopted a working programme for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on NGN standards.

During the four-day event, representatives from companies such as NTT, TM (Malaysia), Dialog and Sri Lanka Telecom will be joined by equipment manufacturers such as Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks, and Motorola to discuss standardization issues in relation to NGN and the work of the ITU in this field.

The event is organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), in association with the ITU.

Over 12 sessions have been planned to address issues such as the work of the ITU itself, NGN developments in the region, signaling, interconnections and interoperability, and the ITU mark.

Malcolm Johnson, Director at ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, is expected to give a keynote address at the event.

Equally, government officials and regulators from the region are billed to attend the event, where policy and regulatory issues will be discussed.
