The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission is set to hold a series of training and interactive workshops on dialogue and mediation as tools for preventing and mitigating election-related disputes and violence for political actors and stakeholders in Nigeria.

The workshop, the Commission said is part of its strategic and operational support for the country’s peaceful 2023 General Election.

The workshop series, according to the statement made available to the media on Saturday by the Program Officer, Mediation Directorate of Political Affairs, ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Brown Odigie, is billed to hold in some selected states across the six geo-political zones of the country. It targets the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) among others and is aimed at strengthening their capacity to prevent and mitigate potential pre- and post-election-related disputes and violence, to ensure peaceful electoral outcomes.

It is also a follow-up to the ECOWAS’ October 23rd-November 12th, 2022 Pre-election Fact-Finding Mission to Nigeria which among others, assessed the level of preparation by relevant stakeholders for the forthcoming general elections while mapping out areas of potential support by ECOWAS.

The Commission explained that the program is being held against the backdrop that electoral contestations have become a major source of conflicts in West Africa, with the potential for violence, triggered or heightened by the high premium on political power and incendiary rhetoric in political discourse.

It is expected that this series of training and interactive workshops will also create opportunities for stakeholders to understand better, the ECOWAS normative principles and frameworks for democracy and good governance, sustain and enhance ECOWAS’ strategic engagement with the political process in Nigeria as well as its commitment and determination to promote dialogue and mediation in resolving electoral disputes and conflicts.

It would be recalled that similar workshops were organized in the lead-up to the 2019 general elections in Nigeria and around the electoral processes of several other Member States.

The training and interactive workshops are being supported with funding from the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark under the Danish Africa Programme for Peace.

The workshop is being organized by the Directorate of Political Affairs (DPA), Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the Commission, and will commence a series on the 22nd of November 2022 in Lagos, Nigeria.

NIRA unveils new COO, marches ahead of 150,000 domains – ITREALMS

The new Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mrs. Eyitayo Iyortim has been unveiled with the latest administrative changes in the secretariat of Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), just as it marches beyond 150,000 domains, reports ITREALMS.

Disclosing this recently, NIRA President, Rev’d Sunday Folayan informed ITREALMS that Mrs. Eyitayo Iyortim has assume the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of NIRA with effect from 1st December 2018.

She comes from a rich Information Technology background with a keen eye on Project Management and Operational Excellence.

“We are delighted to attract such a talent as Eyitayo to NIRA, and look forward to her contributing positively as a member of the NIRA Family,” he said.

Folayan noted that in the last four years, Mrs. Edith Udeagu, the elsewhile COO, has brought a lot of stability to the NIRA Secretariat, as the Head of the Secretariat.

He also used the opportunity to revealed that with effect from 1st December 2018, Edith has assumed the role of the Executive Secretary to the Board of NIRA, and the Head of the Secretariat.

“The Board of NIRA is delighted with these advances, as it further solidifies NIRA’s footprint and positions the organization for growth and the needed resilience to make the registry a force to reckon with,” he said.

ITREALMS further gathered that currently with over 66 Registrars and NIRA steady march to 150,000 domains in the registry, needs to ensure operational excellence.

“… And a robust operation is very important at this point in time, serving its stakeholders and helping to deepen the utilization of the Nigerian identity - .ng,” Folayan emphasized.

LEPCMON visits Archbishop Martins ahead of October confab | ITREALMS Online

The newly elected officers and ex-officio members of the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province Catholic Men Organisation Nigeria (LEPCMON) visits Archbishop Martins ahead of its National Conference of Catholic Men Organisation Nigeria (CMON) in October, 2018, reports ITRealms.

LEPCMON, ITRealms gathered, comprises Abeokuta, Ijebu Ode Dioceses and Lagos Archdiocese paid a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins.

The visit saw incumbent Provincial President of the LEPCMON who was formally introduced to the Chief shepherd by Mr. John Aigbokhaiode – President, Lagos Archdiocesan Catholic Men Organisation (LACMO) who led the delegation.

Also, the Provincial President introduced his colleagues to the Archbishop, and expressed optimism that his team is ready to ensure successful piloting of the affairs of LEPCMON in the next four years.

Responding, His Grace congratulated the officers and prayed that grace of God will lead them through as they serve Him and humanity.

He also advised the faithful to officiate with fear of the Heavenly Father and think of new ideas to help them improve the structures in place.

He thanked the past executives that directed the affairs of LEPCMON before now, and lamented that Christians were under pressure and treats, especially in the northern Nigeria.

He cautioned that everybody ought to be aware of the security situation and should pray for God’s intervention.

Further, through the Provincial President, LEPCMON, Mr. Remigius L. Nwokoroku, used the visit to remind the Archbishop about the hosting of the National Conference of Catholic Men Organisation Nigeria (CMON) by the LEPCMON in October, 2018, adding that details of the proposed conference including the theme; scriptural quotations and proposed date of activities had been forwarded to the National Chaplain of the CMON for his endorsement.

The conference slated for Thursday 25^th October, 2018, he said, has been tentatively scheduled for the National Executive Council Meeting of the body for ratification. While Friday 26^thOctober, 2018; being the date for arrival of all participating delegates has been chosen for the Executive Council to meet with the Archbishop of Lagos.

“The opening Mass before the conference will be said on Saturday 27^th October, 2018, after that the meeting will formerly commence,” he said, stressing that on Sunday 28th October, 2018 after Mass, the delegates would depart to their different geographical locations.

Oladipo emerges GOCOP President ahead of 2017 confab

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) have elected the publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, as President, reports ITRealms.

The election conducted on Wednesday at Adna Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, saw Oladipo who is the current General Secretary of the association emerging as President.

Also elected into the National Executive Committee of the Guild are the Publisher, Real News, Maureen Chigbo, as Deputy President; Publisher, Newsdiaryonline, Danlami Nmodu, Secretary General; and Publisher, Metro Watch, Collins Edomaruse, Deputy Secretary General.

Others are the Publisher, World Stage, Segun Adeleye, Financial Secretary; Publisher, The Scroll, Janet Mba-Afolabi, Treasurer; and Publisher, Qed.ng, Olumide Iyanda, Publicity Secretary.

The election was conducted by a committee led by the Publisher of Global Patriot, Simon Ibe.

Speaking after the election, the outgoing Acting President of GOCOP, Musikilu Mojeed, thanked the electoral committee for organising a free and fair poll.

Mojeed congratulated Oladipo and his team, calling on all members of the Guild to give them all the needed support.

The new Executive Committee will be inaugurated at the 1st annual conference of GOCOP holding on Thursday, August 10 at Renaissance Hotel, Isaac John Street, Ikeja.

The theme of the conference is: “Sustaining Growth through Diversification of the Economy.”

Keynote Speakers at the conference are university teacher, Prof. Akin Onigbinde; the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga; and a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, will also be speaking at the conference.

Buratai will speak on the tackling of the Boko Haram insurgency in the face of the country’s economic reality.

Former Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Sun Newspapers and now the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina; and the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of New Telegraph Newspapers and also the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Funke Egbemode, will participate in the discussion.
