2019: Irona pledges good governance, inaugurates Ihedioha campaign committee - ITREALMS



The Deputy Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Hon. Gerald Irona, has assured people of the State of good governance when voted into power in 2019, reports ITREALMS.
He gave this assurance weekend, while inaugurating the Imo Restoration Vanguard and Ihedioha Campaign Committee in Eziorsu, Oguta Local Government Area of the State, reiterated the commitment of the PDP team to bringing the dividends of democracy to the door steps of the people.

According to him, “Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha is committed to good governance and bringing the dividends of democracy to your door steps. We must come together to end the era of poor governance in Imo. Go and tell Imo people the good news that the PDP is ready to right the wrongs in the state by returning power to the people. It is time to end poverty and create wealth in Imo. The era of deceit is over. It is time to ensure that your rights as the economic base of the state are protected and all that you have been denied over the years restored.”
A press statement by the Adviser, Communications to Rt. Hon. Gerald Irona, Dr. Walter Duru, made available to ITREALMS, quoted him as charging people of the area to resist the temptation of selling their votes for peanuts in order to secure the future of the state.
In their respective speeches, some leaders of the area- Messrs. Charles Mazi, Clinton Ifejirika and Kingsley Ngwuruakor Adigwe were unanimous in pouring encomiums on Hon. Irona, describing him as a dependable leader.

They pledged their support to the Ihedioha/Irona joint PDP ticket, describing it as the best option for Imo state in 2019.

The community leaders urged people of the area to give massive support to the PDP in 2019 in order to deliver the state from what they described as “mismanagement of resources and poor governance.”

The highlights of the occasion were speeches, cultural dances and defection of persons from other political parties to the PDP, among others.
No fewer than five thousand persons from Eziorsu town and other parts of Oru Ward were present at the event.

FG actively promoting business, inaugurates stakeholders committee

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has reiterated the policy of the present administration to actively promote the participation of the private sector in the nation's strategic economic agenda, reports ITRealms.

The Minister stated this when he inaugurated the Stakeholders Engagement Committee of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) in Abuja on Tuesday.

“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, let me use this opportunity to reiterate that the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari recognizes and actively promotes the participation of the private sector in the strategic economic agenda of the nation.

“This pro-business posture of the government is eminently reflected in the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan of this government,” he said.

Alhaji Mohammed said the government will continue to create an enabling environment for private businesses to thrive and build economic prosperity for the generality of Nigerians, including the provision of critical infrastructure through Public Private Partnership.

Expressing delight at the caliber of members of the committee, he enjoined them to do everything possible to ensure that the committee lives up to its responsibilities by ensuring that it identifies and maintains contacts with various stakeholders and opinion leaders; and advises the Council accordingly.

In his remarks, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Alex Okoh, said in the last 30 years, over 140 public enterprises across various sectors of the economy have been fully or partially privatized or fully or partially commercialized or concessioned.

“Of these privatized enterprises, over 60% have achieved a good level of performance. The generation companies are performing very well. I can also tell you that the seaports are performing despite some infrastructural constraints,” he said.

Mr. Okoh said the importance of an effective stakeholders' engagement strategy cannot be over-emphasized, in view of the need to build support and understanding for the Federal Government’s reform agenda by effectively communicating the benefits of the privatization programme.

The committee, chaired by the Minister of Information and Culture, has the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari; Iyalode Alaba Lawson, the President of NACCIMA; Mr. Ben Upah of NLC, Auwal Musa from the Civil Society; Mr. Maxwell Loko of the Nigerian Television Authority; Olaniyi Omodara of the National Human Rights Commission and Mr. Uchola of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment as some of the members.

ANA inaugurates four-man committee for mentorship

The Osun State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) has inaugurated a four-man committee to handle the issues of teen authorship in the state, reports ITRealms.

The committee headed by Mr. Tunji Adepoju was set up with the aim of giving young writers the opportunity of enjoying the mentorship from established writers, in addition to having their writings published and read by their mates and others at the young age.

Mr. Muriola Awosemo, ANA Osun Chairman during the inauguration said “ANA Osun Young Writers Mentorship Scheme hopes to hone, enhance, nurture and publish works of teen and young writers between the ages of 9 and 17.”


The four-man committee, ITRealms gathered, include Mr. Bunyamin Zakariyah, Bada Yusuf and Mr. Adelowo Quadri as members.

University strikes: FG inaugurates C'ttee on 2009 agreement

The Federal Government (FG) on Monday in Abuja inaugurated a 14-man committee chaired by Dr. Wale Babalakin (SAN) to end incessant and protracted strikes in Nigerian tertiary institutions, with a declaration that it does not see the unions as an enemy, reports ITRealms.

The committee is expected to re-negotiate the 2009 agreement between government, Academic Staff Union of Universities; Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities; National Association of Academic Technologists and Non-Academic Staff Union of Associated and Allied Institutions.

Members of the committee include Prof. Munzali Jibril, Pro chancellor, Federal University, Lafia; Prof. Nimi Briggs, Pro. Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja; Senator Gbemisola Saraki, Pro chancellor, Federal University, Otuoke; Arc. Lawrence Ngbale, Pro chancellor, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi; Prince Alex Mbata, Pro chancellor, Imo State University, Owerri and Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.

While inaugurating the the committee, the Minister of Education, Malami Adamu Adamu, said the re-negotiation team was significant government was committed to keeping to its promise and ensure an environment that is conducive for learning, teaching, research and community service "engendered through lasting industrial harmony."

He encouraged the team to undertake the responsibility with patriotism, dedication, mutual trust and selflessness because the future and stake of the university system will be affected by its successes or otherwise.

"Today’s inauguration kick-starts our drive for re-negotiation across the three segments of the tertiary education sub-sector-universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, starting with universities.. Subsequently, the teams of the re-negotiation with the polytechnics and colleges of education, would be constituted as soon as their respective governing councils are put in place", he said.

"The inauguration of the re-negotiation team is significant as it confirms to the unions that government is committed to keeping its own side of the promise. It wants to ensure that an environment that is conducive for teaching, learning, research and community service is engendered through lasting industrial harmony in all our tertiary institutions.

Babalakin, assured the unions of its commitment towards ensuring that there would be no stalemate between the two parties and pledged that the committee's objective will be in creating a better educational system.

He said, "A conducive environment in the tertiary institution is the bedrock for the development of a nation's intelligentsia. A nation's development can be seriously enhanced by the active participation of the intelligence in the pursuit of the country' developmental goals.

"We also want to assure you that we intend to rise beyond your expectations for the fourth realms of tertiary education‎ in Nigeria. This task should not be underestimated and with the commitment of all, it could provide a serious enhancement for education in Nigeria."
