ITREALMS ... making leadership SENSE with digital news!
The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) today condemned the expulsion of an Arise Television cameraman from a campaign meeting by the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, with the business community in Lagos on January 13, 2023, describing the action of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) as bizarre, highhanded and a violation of the rights of the media.
MRA’s Programme Director, Mr. Ayode Longe, expressed concern that “the APC-PCC’s blatant disregard for the rights of a journalist performing a constitutionally-protected function even at a time when the party is seeking to persuade Nigerians to vote its candidate into the highest office in the land, portends grave dangers for the media should that candidate prevail in the elections.”

FG launches nationwide campaign to support military - ITREALMS
The Federal Government has launched a nationwide campaign to support the military, reports ITREALMS.
Disclosing this, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Thursday the campaign is to rally the support of Nigerians for the military, especially in the fight against insurgency.
''The men and women in uniform who are risking all, including making the supreme sacrifice, to keep us safe deserve the support and prayers of all Nigerians, not vilification, insults and other acts that are capable of dampening their morale,'' Minister said while launching the campaign, tagged the National Campaign in Support of the Military, in Abuja.
He said it is particularly important for Nigerians to support the military at a time that it is facing a heightened challenge from global terrorists.
''As our gallant men and women in uniform clear the remnants of the home-grown insurgency called Boko Haram, they are confronting a fresh crisis, a global insurgency. A faction of Boko Haram has aligned with the global terror group, ISIS, to form ISWAP, the Islamic State's West African Province. In other words, ISIS now has a strong foothold in West Africa - with Nigeria in the forefront of the battle against them.
''Those who do not understand the fresh threat facing our nation, nor appreciate the sacrifice of our troops, have now made it their past-time to wage a campaign of disinformation against the military, especially in the social media. Doctored videos and pictures purporting to show mass military casualties are willfully circulated online. Such unpatriotic acts are discouraging and demoralizing our troops, and must stop forthwith,'' Alhaji Mohammed said.

Peter Obi: Campaign can't stop my school visits - ITREALMS
ITREALMS:
The Vice Presidential candidate of the PDP, Mr. Peter Obi has declared that not even the electioneering campaign for the February 2019 election would stop him from his routine visit to schools, reports ITREALMS.
Speaking Wednesday during his visit to St. Patrick's Secondary School, Ugwuagba, Obosi in Anambra State, Mr. Obi encouraged students to remain focused in their academic pursuits, stressing that education remained the most essential currency for competition in the world of today.
After a question and answer session with the students, Obi assured them that the Atiku-led Government would make education a priority.
"Atiku is education-friendly. I have had many sessions with him on how we would tackle the problem of education in order to get it right. He is saddened by the continual strike by lecturers of higher institution and he is determined that under him, such would not, as now, become a national pastime. Of course, he has asked me those things we did to improve education in Anambra State and he is ready to apply them nationally.
Responding on behalf of the students, the Senior Prefect, Master Onyekachukwu Obasi thanked Obi for his wonderful stewardship in Anambra. He said it was under him that their school got brand new buses, computers, generators, internet connectivity, among other necessary Infrastructure.
The high point of the visit was the donation of N2 milllion to the school for continued infrastructural improvement.

Onnoghen: PDP's suspension of campaign face-saving measure - ITREALMS
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has described as a face saving measure the decision by the PDP to pull the brakes on its electioneering campaign over Justice Walter Onnoghen's suspension, saying the PDP's campaign never gained traction in the first instance, reports ITREALMS.
Responding in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Saturday, over the suspension of the PDP's campaign, the Minister said: ''Which Campaign? Their campaign was over a long time ago. There is nothing to suspend. We said it that their campaign had floundered. You can now see. What they are doing now is looking for a face-saving way out of a dead and buried campaign.''
He wondered why the PDP is crying more than the bereaved, and asked the opposition party whether Justice Onnoghen is one of its members.
“And in any event, let’s ask them this question: Is there something that they know that we don’t know? Is there something between them and the suspended CJN? Otherwise, we did not see why they should suspend their campaign anyway, but I can understand that their campaign was bound to end this way,” Alhaji Mohammed said.
He said while Nigerians have been trooping out in large numbers wherever the President’s campaign ship berths, the PDP supporters have been dwindling by the day.

FG plans nationwide support campaign for military - ITREALMS
ITREALMS:
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has revealed that his ministry will soon launch a massive national campaign in support of the military, especially in their fight against insurgency and insecurity
“We are planning to launch a national campaign to rally support for the military. We believe the men and women who are risking all to keep us safe deserve the support and prayers of all Nigerians, not vilification, insults and other acts that are capable of dampening their morale,” the Minister said at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the campaign, which will be similar to the previous ones launched by the ministry on burning issues such as fake news and hate speech, insurgency and the fight against corruption, will mobilise Nigerians irrespective of their political leanings to show support for the military.
“I think it is high time that everybody, irrespective of political affiliation, joined in supporting the war (against insurgency). It’s not unusual, as a matter of fact it’s usually the practice, that when a country is faced with this kind of challenge, people will sink their differences and work together. So, very soon, you will expect to hear from us on this campaign to support the military in the fight against not just insurgency but in the fight against insecurity,'' Alhaji Mohammed said.
He said the national campaign, which will be multi-faceted, will include the production and airing of special jingles on radio and television, social media intervention and advocacy.
The Minister decried how some Nigerians, particularly opposition politicians, have made it their past-time to wage a campaign of disinformation against the military on the social media, saying such unpatriotic acts are discouraging and demoralizing the men and women in uniform.
“I think the biggest opposition probably today that the military has is probably not Boko Haram, it’s probably the Social Media because it’s so uncontrolled. Today, video clips are doctored and clips of happenings in other lands are now reported and sent out as if they are happening in Nigeria. Unfortunately, there is no one to hold responsible. This is very discouraging and it demoralizes the military.
“That brings me to the bigger issue of overall support for our military. Recent developments are disturbing. The activities of a section of the media and some opposition political parties are demoralizing the military and strengthening the insurgents. Without seeking or waiting for official clarification, outrageous casualty figures are prominently reported. Without consideration for national security, military plans are recklessly revealed. Not even in the United States, the bastion of democracy, does this happen,” he said.
Alhaji Mohammed said even though the government would neither censor nor gag the media, journalists must strike a balance between the constitutionally-guaranteed freedom to receive and impart information and national security.

Lagos APC kicks off campaign, promises to construct Agboyi Bridge - ITREALMS
The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, officially kicked off his campaign on Saturday, addressing thousands of party supporters at a political rally held on the Ajelogo Field in Kosofe Local Government Area (LGA), reports ITREALMS.
The rally drew people from all the 16 LGAs and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Lagos East Senatorial District.
Speaking before a crowd of ecstatic supporters, the APC candidate said his administration would construct the much talked about Agboyi Bridge to ease vehicular traffic in the area, while also promising to deliver modern housing scheme for low-income residents.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated his pledge to run an all-inclusive government if elected, stressing that his government would listen to the wishes of all Lagosians. He said his campaign manifesto had been redesigned to accommodate requests made by residents.
While promising to initiate policies that would lead to employment generation, the APC governorship candidate said his administration would increase the number of primary health centres and expand their operations to cater for more residents in the senatorial district. This, he said, is part of his programme to deliver quality and affordable healthcare in all public-owned hospitals.
He said: “Today, our campaign for the governorship election has begun and there is a purpose for starting the campaign in Kosofe. In the past weeks, we embarked on state-wide consultations to listen to your wishes and expectations. Now, the campaign has taken off and we are here in Kosofe to speak to our people at the grassroots. This is a demonstration of our resolve not to run an elitist government. We will listen to you.
“As part of our programmes, we will provide quality and affordable education for your children from basic school to tertiary institutions. All the schools owned by the state would be upgraded and they will be equipped with modern facilities. We are planning to increase the number of primary health centres and also strengthen them, so that more people can have access to quality healthcare.
“In line with our plan to ease traffic situation in Kosofe area, I have considered people’s request on Agboyi Bridge and I promise that my administration will deliver the project if elected.”
Member representing Kosofe Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebayo Osinowo, who is the APC senatorial candidate for the Lagos East, described Sanwo-Olu as “a man people can trust”.
Osinowo said APC had led Lagos well in the last 19 years, urging the residents to vote for all the party candidates in the coming general election.
Former chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, who doubles as the Deputy Director General of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Independent Campaign Group in the district, said the huge crowd at the rally indicated the readiness of the Lagos East residents to give APC highest number of vote in the election.
Vice Chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC) in state, Mr R.O. Ajayi, said all member of the committee had endorsed the candidacy of Sanwo-Olu, promising that group members would work for the victory of APC candidate.
At the rally included the APC leader in the district, Sen. Anthony Adefuye, former Lagos Commissioner, Dr. Tola Kasali, member representing Kosofe Constituency II in the state assembly, Hon. Tunde Braimoh, traditional rulers led by Alaketu of Ketu, Oba Isiaka Balogun Oyero, and all 16 LGA and LCDA chairmen in Lagos East.
