This is coming as the president of Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN), Sir Williams Ngerem has commended members for their unalloyed support of his leadership and progress made.

The Rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe disclosed this at the celebration of the 2024 World Aeronautical Information System (AIS) at the Lagos Travel Inn, Ikeja, organised by AIMAN.

He also said that the foremost and leading institution in the country for the training of aviation industry personnel, has introduced AIS-related and general studies to boost the curricular of the college.

NCAT Zaria, ITREALMS recalled was formerly known as Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Center and was set up by Act. No 31 of 1964 as amended, to conduct civil aviation courses for use in flight training or airport operations and management as may be prescribed from time to time.

In addition, NCAT trains approved persons in the installation, maintenance and operation, as the case may be, of technical equipment, the use of which is calculated or likely to increase the margin of operational safety of civil aircrafts, as well as on equipment and necessary facilities for technical research or normal use.

Earlier in his address, AIMAN President, Sir Williams Ngerem commended the recent appointment of the Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Engr. Ahmed Farouk and Rector, Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe for their successful emergence.

Ngerem noted that tangible efforts and achievements have been made towards achieving AIS Competency Based Assessment which is the core requirement for the full implementation of the Quality Management System for AIS.

"It requires competent personnel for the distribution of quality aeronautical information, thereby instilling the necessary quality assurance and confidence on users of aeronautical information is important," he said.

Therefore, he said, the AIS Unit in the Area Airways Department has come of age and is long overdue to become a full fledged department in the ATS/COM School like its sister departments of ATC and COMMS.

He underscored the fact that AIS Unit at NCAT is one of the sources of revenue and contributor to the college’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

"It is also worthy of note that in the Areal Airways Department, the AIS Unit runs up to five (5) different courses as opposed to only one (1) course that the ATC runs; that is Area Control Course.

Just as he called for more instructors in the AIS Unit because it is presently understaffed.

Further, he said, there is need for the training institution to have a full-fledged Cartography/GIS Laboratory to ensure professionals are fully equipped with up-to-date knowledge and expertise in line with global standards and recommended practices.

Ngerem equally commended the National Executive Council of AIMAN for their continued and unflinching support over the years.

"Your dedication, hard work and selfless services to AIMAN in the past Six (6) years of my tenure in office has been unprecedented," he said, acknowledging the unalloyed support and cooperation of all AIMAN members.

"I thank them for their vote of confidence over the years. Without you we wouldn’t have been able to go far or achieve all we did," Ngerem declared.
