SYNW commends Obiano over Juliet Chudie’s appointment, demands more - ITREALMS

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has commended the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano for appointing one of their own in the state as a Special Adviser on Youth Empowerment, even as they demanded for more especially in Literary Matters, reports ITREALMS.

The National President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Mr. Wole Adedoyin who confirmed this to ITREALMS, described the appointment as recognition of hardwork, and eulogized Gov. Willie Obiano for giving youths opportunities and voices in his administration.

He disclosed there are many young ones out there who have a lot to contribute in development and governance of every state, Mr. Adedoyin also called on other governors of the various states in the federation to emulate such gesture and give youths more opportunity, maintaining that such will also help to spur other youths to play their drums well in their various fields of endeavour.

Also, he urged Governor Obiano to consolidate on this feat by appointing another young writer, like the Coordinator of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers in the state, Mr. Izunna Okafor as an aide on Literary Matters, being an internationally acclaimed award-winning author/journalist and convener of the Chinua Achebe Annual Literary Festival.

"Anambra State is a hub of literary figures in Nigeria, and in fact, the first state to reckon with when it comes to literary matters, having given the world arrays of literary champions; and as such, the state deserves to have an aide who will stand as a liaison officer between the government and writers in the state both established and burgeoning writers" he said.

Adedoyin pointed out that Anambra State is expected to be the first state to set the pace on having such an aide on Literary Matters, which no state government has ever had in the history of the country.

“I trust Gov. Obiano is best expected to set such pace, being a youth-loving Governor. So, as I appreciate him, I also urge him to buy into this humble suggestion," SYNW president said.

In her reaction, the newly appointed SA on Youth Empowerment in Anambra State, Mrs. Juliet Chudie described it as a call to serve, and appreciated Gov. Obiano for finding her worthy to hold such a revered position, and giving her the opportunity to serve the state and Ndi Anambra.

She promised to employ her wealth of experience and knowledge in the discharge of her duties, so as to contribute her own quota in actualizing Gov. Obiano's transformation agenda for the state, especially through the aspects of youth empowerment and development.

Mrs. Chudie who is a member of Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter) is a native of Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, and the founder of Juliet Chudie Foundation, founded in 2015.

She is the author of 'A Mother's Heart Bleeds' and the winner of the CSA Award as the Creative Writer of the Year 2018, and has through her foundation, touched many lives, empowered many youths and restored many hope in various localities of the state.

‘Why Young, Samsung’s MD must be deported’ - ITREALMS

The Nigerian Senate has adduced reasons why it directed the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), to immediately deport the Managing Director, SamsungWest Africa with office in Nigeria, Mr Young Ho Jo, back to South Korea, for purportedly entering the country with improper documentations, reports ITRealms.

The Red chamber, ITRealms gathered, gave this directive on Thursday via its Chairman, Ad- hoc Committee, investigating the $16.35 billion Egina Oil Field Project, Senator Solomon Adeola (APC Lagos West) during interactive session with major and subcontractors of the project.

Senator Adeola said the resolution for immediate deportation of Mr. Ho Jo, Samsung chief, was taken by the Senate a week earlier, in line with recommendation to that effect by the ad- hoc committee in its interim report.

The Senator, who made this proclamation in the presence of the embattled South Korean and other operators of the Egina oil field project, revealed that illegality of Mr. Young Ho Jo residency in Nigeria came to the fore during scrutiny of his papers.

“Mr Young Ho Jo who has been working for the past two months in Nigeria as the managing director of Samsung without fulfilling legal requirements for such told us that he couldn’t complete his documentation as a result of alleged break down of machines of the Nigeria Content Development Monitoring Board (NCMDB).

“But the NCMBD wrote to us that their machine had never broken down in the period claimed showing that the man has contravened the Local Content law. Going by recommendations made by this committee to the Senate and resolution adopted, MD Samsung is no longer recognised on account of improper documentation as shown by papers he presented.

"To the Senate and this committee, Samsung MD is an illegal immigrant who must be deported by the Nigerian Immigration Service, to which a letter to that effect has been forwarded to the Ministry of Interior. He can, however, come back to the country through proper documentation thereafter,” he said.

Senator Adeola further disclosed that Young Ho Jo, during his illegal residency in Nigeria as Managing Director, Samsung, also violated the Local Content Act by spending $1.6bn out of the $3.5bn contract, Samsung got from $16.35bn Egina Oil Field Project in Goje, South Korea.

Nigerian students hail Glo’s 11k per second rate

Nigerian students all over the country have demonstrated their enthusiasm over the re-launch of Globacom’s special tariff package formulated for the young and young at heart, reports ITRealms.

Globacom’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Ashok Israni said that the product tagged Glo Bounce,was aimed at significantly enhancing the communication experience of Nigerian youths, hence it allows subscribers to exchange calls at the pocket friendly rate of 11 kobo per second, ITRealms gathered.

Besides the heavily discounted rate of 11 kobo per second, Glo Bounce has many other interesting features which have already endeared it to the hearts of trend-setting young individuals in schools and those in formal or informal employment, according to Israni.

ITRealms also learnt that some of the features include ‘Campus Zone’, which enables subscribers to call other lines at the rate of 11 kobo per second once activated.

Information reaching ITRealms further disclosed that subscribers on the platform also get 15MB of data free for every recharge of N200 and above, as well as unlimited, free SMS.  To get on the Bounce platform, subscribers are requested to dial *170*4#. To opt for Campus Zone, they are required to dial *170*9#.

ITU commences voting on Young Innvovators competition 2015

Voting has picked up on high gear for the 2015 young innovators competition, as Knowledge Chikundi, an undergraduate student at the University of Zimbabwe, topping the chart with 8273 points and 369 votes, reports ITRealms.

The competition which is powered by Crowdicity, is open to young people anywhere in the world to engage in the challenge, contribute, comment, refine, and evolve ideas.

As gathered by ITRealms, the Young Innovators Competition is an annual ITU Telecom Initiative aimed at talented young social entrepreneurs using technology creatively to a range of real-life developmental challenges.

ITRealms also gathered that this years annual challenge seeks most exciting ideas or start-ups in response to four developmental challenges running one after the other in the months between now and ITU Telecom World 2015 in Budapest, Hungary.

The challenge 1, ITRealms gathered is centered on Entrepreneurship, while the deadline for the application has been slated to close on the May 7, 2015 at 12noon.

Nigerian Ada Umeofia, 4 other Africans win Google prize

A 19-year old Nigerian, Ms Ada Umeofia of the WeBuilt alongside four other African young innovators have emerged winners in the 2012  Zeitgeist Young Minds, an opportunity for young people to showcase how they are making a positive impact in our world.

Others include Joel Mwale of Kenya, Jordan Ridge and Sibusiso Tshabalala from South Africa, Simeon Oriko of Kenya.

Disclosing this, the Policy and Government Relations Manager Africa, Google, Ms Ory Okolloh, said they were inspired by these young Africans and look forward to following their progress.

She said that this year’s winners have now been named and organisers were very excited to see that of the 10 inspiring young people selected from around the world five were African.
 

According to her, Ada Umeofia, 19 from Nigeria through her WeBuilt offers Africa a design-centered social enterprise that redesigns and constructs market stalls for poverty-stricken Africans by recycling found building materials in slums. View the video:

Also, the 19-year Kenyan Joel Mwale, exhibits his social contribution through Skydrop Enterprise Inc, which has brought safe drinking water to a community of 5,000, thus becoming a profitable enterprise from selling bottled water across Kenya and Uganda. View the video:

Additionally, Jordan Ridge, 23 from South Africa, through Made by Mosaic; a job creation project for women in South Africa addresses the challenges of economic development in the townships. View the video:
