Restoring Sight, Transforming Lives: NNPC/SNEPCo vision first outreach empowers nearly 3,000 @Badagry - ITREALMS

Nearly 3,000 residents across Badagry Local Government Area have benefited from the latest edition of the Vision First medical outreach, a joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), reports ITREALMS.

The five-day medical intervention saw large turnouts as community members from various parts of Badagry gathered early each day to access comprehensive healthcare services.

On the opening day alone, sight-restoring procedures were successfully performed on 38 patients. Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to the NNPC/SNEPCo JV, noting that their restored vision would enable them to reintegrate into economic and social life.

During the intensive five-day programme, the medical team delivered a wide array of specialized eye care and general healthcare services:

Total Patients Screened: 2,297 individuals

Dedicated Eye Care Services: 1,458 patients

Prescription Spectacles Dispensed: 878 pairs

Cataract Surgeries Performed: 154 procedures

General Surgeries Conducted: 200+ procedures

Highlighting the core philosophy behind the outreach, SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams remarked:

“We believe that caring for people goes beyond business; it is a responsibility and a privilege. That is why we remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen communities and create lasting impact.”

The Badagry intervention marks the 6th edition of the Vision First initiative since its inception in 2022. Late last year, the initiative expanded outside Lagos State, holding a session in Asaba, Delta State, where nearly 2,000 people received critical medical attention.

Beyond eye care, the Vision First framework delivers holistic health support, including Cardiovascular screenings and consultations, treatment for mild and chronic conditions, on-site laboratory and pharmaceutical services, distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets.

The initiative is delivered in partnership with the Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, a Jos-based non-governmental organization dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care to underserved populations across Sub-Saharan Africa.

SNEPCo, which pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater oil production through the offshore Bonga field in 2005, continues to support national socio-economic growth through targeted investments in public health, education, capacity building, and infrastructure development.
