Oyo State positions self 'leader in climate actions, sustainable systems' - ITREALMS

The Oyo State Government, led by Governor 'Seyi Makinde, is committed to environmental governance and sustainable development. The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Barr. Temilola Seun Ashamu, stated that the Ministry has made significant strides in climate action, waste management, afforestation, and ecological infrastructure.

The Ministry has planted 30,000 trees in six years, covering 111 hectares of land, and established three hectares of indigenous trees and medicinal herbariums. 

Additionally, it has desilted 153 kilometers of blocked drains and culverts, and dredged 18 flood-prone streams, while constructing 50 bridges and culverts. The state has also implemented an early warning system for flood alerts in Ibadan, which alerts residents approximately 72 hours before any flood would occur.

12 professors, 15 others gain Shell sabbatical, research positions - ITREALMS


The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) Joint Venture has significantly expanded its educational initiatives by inducting 27 Nigerian academics and research interns. This year's programme, a 35% increase from the previous year, welcomed eight professors, four senior lecturers, and 15 other participants.

Held at the company's headquarters in Port Harcourt, the induction ceremony marked the beginning of a one-year programme focused on knowledge exchange and skill development. Drawn from 13 Nigerian universities, these participants will gain valuable industry experience in fields like biodiversity, petroleum engineering, and environmental impact assessment.

"The research and internship programmes are central to our commitment to supporting higher education in Nigeria," explained Shell Nigeria's Head of Corporate Relations, and SPDC Director, Mr. Igo Weli. He described the programme as mutually beneficial nature by offering Shell access to specialised expertise from professors and lecturers, who in turn acquire practical industry knowledge and exposure to cutting-edge technologies.

Despite operational challenges, Mr. Weli reaffirmed Shell's position as the industry leader in fostering a positive learning environment and empowering people.

Representing the NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, Mrs. Bunmi Edith Lawson echoed Mr. Weli's sentiments. She highlighted the programme's significance in scientific exploration, environmental stewardship, and knowledge advancement. "This is an investment in the next generation of innovators," she stated, "and a way for us to give back to our stakeholders."

The 2024 programme includes participants from a diverse range of universities across Nigeria, including the University of Benin, Rivers State University, University of Ibadan, Niger Delta University, and Ahmadu Bello University.

Others are Bingham University Karu, Federal University Wukari, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Covenant University, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, University of Uyo, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture.

At the close of application period on March 30, 2023, ITREALMS gathered that a total of 155 completed applications for this year's open ICANN leadership positions were received.

NomCom invites EoI for ICANN leadership positions - ITREALMS

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) Nominating Committee (NomCom) has invited interested individuals to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) in key leadership positions within ICANN and Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), reports ITREALMS.

The selected individuals, ITREALMS gathered, will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development.

“The deadline to submit applications is 18 March 2019 at 23:59 Universal Coordinated Time (UTC),” according to NomCom, noting that its also accepting recommendations of suggested candidates.

“We are inviting applications and recommendations for the following positions, Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors; One member of the PTI Board of Directors; Three regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one from the Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands region, one from the Latin America and Caribbean Islands region, one from the Africa region; Two members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council; and One member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council,” official communications available to ITREALMS from NomCom read.

ITREALMS reports that NomCom assured that this call is guided by the broad public interest, in that those selected will work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's system of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure its stable and secure operation.

The selected leaders, ITREALMS also gathered, will make a valuable public service contribution toward the evolution of the Domain Name System as an essential global resource.

Key qualifications, ITREALMS equally gathered is fluency in English which is a requirement for all positions.

ITREALMS further reports that other qualifications, skills, and time commitments vary depending on the position, even as there is a new online candidate portal that replaced the previous platform.

ICANN shops for 8 leadership positions


ITREALMS:
The Los Angeles-based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is shopping for some eight new leadership positions including the three board members, reports ITRealms.
 
ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom) gave this insight Wednesday, inviting interested individuals to submit an expression of interest and/or recommend candidates for ICANN's key leadership positions. 

ITRealms also reports that selected individuals will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development. 

ICANN NomCom also disclosed that the deadline to submit application is 19 March 2018.

“We are inviting applications and recommendations for the following positions:  Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors; Two representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one from Europe and one from the North America region; One member of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO); and Two members of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO). 

ITRealms recalls that currently, the eight NomCom selected Board members comprised Maarten Botterman, Cherine Chalaby, Sarah Deutsch, Avri Doria, Rafael Lito Ibarra, Khaled Koubaa, George Sadowsky, and Lousewies Van der Laan.

Sources at ICANN revealed that guided by the broad public interest, those selected will work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's system of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure its stable and secure operation.

“They will gain valuable insights and experience working on topics including knowledge, responsibility, culture, and geography. They will make a valuable public service contribution toward the functioning and evolution of this essential global resource,” our source declared.
