A team of Shell staff has won the highly regarded 1st Place Technical Paper Award at the annual international and exhibition conference of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) which ended last night in Lagos, reports ITREALMS.

NNPC/Shell vision first outreach: Over 2,000 benefit @Lagos community - ITREALMS

A recent outreach program organized by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) as part of their Vision First initiative has brought joy to over 2,000 individuals in a Lagos community, with many beneficiaries testifying to restored sight after receiving medical attention.

The five-day outreach, which took place in the Mushin Local Council Development Area, was the fourth in Lagos since the introduction of the Vision First initiative in 2022. During the program, a medical team performed 245 eye surgeries, including 198 cataract and 47 Pterygium surgeries.

Shell: How Nigeria can accelerate gas development – ITREALMS

The premier gas distribution company, Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) has identified development of infrastructure and regulatory and fiscal stability as key drivers for the development of Nigeria’s gas resources, according to SNG Managing Director, Ralph Gbobo, reports ITREALMS.

“This event is special to the Shell brand, not only because of the nostalgia of Oloibiri but the quality of discourse it has enabled in our sector over the years,” SNEPCO Managing Director Ronald Adams said in a goodwill speech delivered by General Manager, Wells and Geosciences Operations Joe Mordi. He said: “We are grateful to the Society of Petroleum Engineers and our host the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for another successful outing.”

Organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council, the Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum began in 1991, in commemoration of the country’s first commercial oil discovery by Shell at Oloibiri, Bayelsa State, in 1956. Ronald said recent developments in the Upstream and Downstream sectors of the energy industry, including the $5-billion final investment decision by Shell in the Bonga North Deepwater project echoed the sentiments around the first oil discovery.

“These strides come with a commitment to excellence required of us – for stakeholders, colleagues, our country and indeed, future generations. The theme for this year ‘Driving energy sustainability through technology, policy and supply chain excellence’ reflects this commitment. Shell, Bayelsa State launch plan to protect Taylor Creek Forest Reserve - ITREALMS

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC Joint Venture) and the Bayelsa state government inaugurated the Gbaran Biodiversity Action Plan (Gbaran BAP), last week, in which more than 150 people from Taylor Creek Forest Reserve communities have been trained in alternative livelihood skills to reduce exploitation of resources at the forest. The trainees acquired skills in Aquaculture, Bee keeping, Goat rearing, snail and cassava/plantain farming and Grasscutter technology and were given packs to start their businesses.

“SPDC is well placed to contribute to the protection of Taylor Creek Forest reserve having successfully implemented similar programmes at Gele-Gele and Urhonigbe forest reserves in Edo State,” said SPDC Director and Head, Corporate Relations Igo Weli, in a speech delivered in Yenagoa by Corporate Relations Manager West, Amechi Ucheoma. “With the support of our joint venture partners – NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies and Nigeria Agip Oil Company – we have decided to embark on the latest biodiversity action plan to continue to support the government and people of Bayelsa State in order to maintain the balance of nature at Taylor Creek.”

The Managing Director, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo,) Ronald Adams has expressed optimism over the nation's oil production targets and implement ambitious development programmes from deep-water oil and gas operations if it continues with policies to encourage investments, reports ITREALMS.

“Deep water is a compelling consideration for Nigeria if the country must meet its oil production targets and implement ambitious development programmes,” Adams said while speaking at the 9th Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) which began in Lagos on Tuesday.

Some 170 young graduates have benefitted from the NCDMB/PETAN/SPDC JV Graduate Internship programme, in which they were attached to indigenous technical oilfield service companies in the upstream and downstream sectors for hands-on experience.

Nigeria: Shell invests in Bonga North deep-water project - ITREALMS

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), a subsidiary of Shell plc, has announced a final investment decision (FID) on Bonga North, a deep-water project off the coast of Nigeria.

Bonga North will be a subsea tie-back to the Shell-operated Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility which Shell operates with a 55% interest.
