The Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has declared that 700 street traders displaced by the Agodi Gate Junction Improvement Works will be given free stalls in the new market built in the area as part of the project.

The governor stated this on Friday at the commissioning of the Idi Ape, Civic Centre, Agodi Gate Junction Improvement Projects, noting that the projects will reduce the number of man-hours spent by residents commuting roads in the city.

The African ICT Foundation has commenced search for a new Board of Trustee (BoT) to position the foundation to meet its key objectives beginning in 2019, reports ITREALMS.

The African ICT Foundation, ITREALMS recalls, is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan research and educational institute whose mission is to formulate, evaluate, and promote policy solutions that accelerate innovation and boost productivity to spur growth, opportunity, and progress in the ICT ecosystem Africa.

According to the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Bassey in a press statement available to ITREALMS, the foundation was established in 2008 to discover new opportunities in ICT that will have positive impact on the African economy, tackle attended challenges, and avoid potential pitfalls.

He disclosed that a key aspect of the rebranding is the inauguration of a new Board of Trustees to drive the affairs of the Foundation in the coming years, for effective delivery of its objectives hence the need for a new board.”

He said: “At inception it had as its board member: Dr. Samuel I. Ikiddeh, Chairman, Engr. Emmanuel E. Ekuwem- Member, Engr. Lanre Ajayi, President – Member, Mr. Aliyu D. Ibrahim, Business Development Manager, Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC)- Member, Dr. Olufunsho Olusanya, Rector, ICT Gateway Polytechnic, Itori Ogun state and Rev. Oke Omezi, Legal Practitioner and Pastor of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Mr. Usman A.Rufai , Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Science Computer science Department ,University of Lagos, and Prof. Effiong Johnson (Dean of Student Affairs, University of Uyo).”

Bassey explained that the Foundation is poised towards providing policymakers in the continent with high-quality information, analysis, and recommendations they can trust.

While expressing confidence of the new Board of Trustee to meet the objectives of the Foundation, he promised that in all ramifications, it will adhere to a high standard of research integrity with an internal code of ethics grounded in analytical rigor, policy pragmatism, and independence from external direction or bias.

He stated that Africans can nominate respected ICT personalities who have made their mark and creating impact in Africa’s ICT ecosystem by visiting the Foundation’s website: africanictfoundation.org.

The Foundation, he said, “will be led by a board of experts in the ICT industry in Africa and African descent that are internationally recognised in policy issues and have recognised footprint in the industry.”

He said the board will be a team of policy analysts and fellows includes authors and recognized experts in the fields of telecommunications, public policy advocacy, economics, tax policy, trade, privacy, cybersecurity, and life sciences, among others. Stressing that the board will run the Foundation through a secretariat based in Nigeria with other offices in Africa.

Upon inauguration, he said, the board, which shall consist of the Chairman of the Board/President, Vice Chair/Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and representatives of other African countries, the board shall elect its officials.

ATCON shops for 14-NEC members, plans 2018 AGM

The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) is now shopping for responsible 14 members of the entity to form the National Executive Council (NEC) from April 2018, reports ITRealms.

This is coming as ATCON also plans its Annual General Meeting (AGM) which would be an elective AGM where those 14 NEC members would be elected for the next two years.

The Executive Secretary at ATCON, Mr. Ajibola Olude, disclosed this to ITRealms, saying that as part of upholding the principle of transparency in the conduct of the forthcoming election into various positions in the NEC of the association, they beckon on all the CEOs and Directors of all our qualified member companies to take active part in the in Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Election into the National Executive Council (NEC).

He listed some of the positions to include, National President;  1st Vice President; 2nd Vice President;     National Secretary; Treasurer; Financial Secretary; National Publicity Secretary; Coordinator, Telephone Operators; Coordinator, Infrastructure Providers; Coordinator, Internet Services Providers;   Coordinator, Manufacturer's Representative; Coordinator, Equipment Dealers; Coordinator, Value Added Services; and Coordinator, Consulting.

To qualify for an election, ITRealms gathered that a candidate must be a Chief Executive Officer or at least a Director duly authorized or designated to represent his/her company by its management.

ICANN shops for 8 leadership positions

ITREALMS:

The Los Angeles-based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is shopping for some eight new leadership positions including the three board members, reports ITRealms.
 

ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom) gave this insight Wednesday, inviting interested individuals to submit an expression of interest and/or recommend candidates for ICANN's key leadership positions. 

ITRealms also reports that selected individuals will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development. 

ICANN NomCom also disclosed that the deadline to submit application is 19 March 2018.

“We are inviting applications and recommendations for the following positions:  Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors; Two representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one from Europe and one from the North America region; One member of the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO); and Two members of the Council of the Country-Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO). 

ITRealms recalls that currently, the eight NomCom selected Board members comprised Maarten Botterman, Cherine Chalaby, Sarah Deutsch, Avri Doria, Rafael Lito Ibarra, Khaled Koubaa, George Sadowsky, and Lousewies Van der Laan.

Sources at ICANN revealed that guided by the broad public interest, those selected will work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's system of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure its stable and secure operation.

“They will gain valuable insights and experience working on topics including knowledge, responsibility, culture, and geography. They will make a valuable public service contribution toward the functioning and evolution of this essential global resource,” our source declared.
