Media Rights Agenda (MRA) has announced the formal opening of its Call for Entries for the Dr. Goodluck Jonathan Freedom of Information Awards 2026, designed to recognize and celebrate journalistic excellence in promoting transparency and accountability through the effective use of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, 2011.

Named in honour of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who signed the FOI Act into Law on May 28, 2011, the first category of the awards will celebrate a journalist who has made the highest number of information requests under the Act, while the second category will honour a journalist who has made the most outstanding contributions in promoting the Act since its enactment by raising awareness among citizens, government officials and the media about it, including its provisions, how to use it, its benefits, and the rights it grants as well as advocating for its effective implementation.

The Anambra State Police command has invited the family of former President, Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme over the alleged Police involvement in brutalisation that saw him currently hospitalised with a broken spinal cord injury, reports ITREALMS.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga while responding to inquiries by ITREALMS, disclosed that his office is yet to receive any such report formally.

NomCom invites EoI for ICANN leadership positions - ITREALMS

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers' (ICANN) Nominating Committee (NomCom) has invited interested individuals to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) in key leadership positions within ICANN and Public Technical Identifiers (PTI), reports ITREALMS.

The selected individuals, ITREALMS gathered, will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development.

“The deadline to submit applications is 18 March 2019 at 23:59 Universal Coordinated Time (UTC),” according to NomCom, noting that its also accepting recommendations of suggested candidates.

“We are inviting applications and recommendations for the following positions, Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors; One member of the PTI Board of Directors; Three regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one from the Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands region, one from the Latin America and Caribbean Islands region, one from the Africa region; Two members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council; and One member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council,” official communications available to ITREALMS from NomCom read.

ITREALMS reports that NomCom assured that this call is guided by the broad public interest, in that those selected will work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's system of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure its stable and secure operation.

The selected leaders, ITREALMS also gathered, will make a valuable public service contribution toward the evolution of the Domain Name System as an essential global resource.

Key qualifications, ITREALMS equally gathered is fluency in English which is a requirement for all positions.

ITREALMS further reports that other qualifications, skills, and time commitments vary depending on the position, even as there is a new online candidate portal that replaced the previous platform.

Libya Slavery: AFLI invites UN Security Council

The African LeadershipInstitute (AFLI) under the aegis of Archbishop Tutu Fellows (ATF) has invited the United NationsSecurity Council (UNSC) to intervene in the African slavery abuse in Libya, reports ITRealms.

AFLI also called upon the UN related organs to urgently declare the practice of slavery, particularly in Libya- a threat against humanity and to work closely with civil society and member states to arrest the slave trade and create an effective punitive framework to combat against the slave trade globally.

AFLI in a statement available to ITRealms to the African Heads of State and the international private sector, Civil Society and multilateral organisations on its stand against the Libyan slave called on Africa Union (AU) to demonstrate continental leadership in aggregating national voices on ensuring slavery remains a historical footnote.

AFLI equally called upon all African heads of State to take action to hold each other accountable, and to engage with other states beyond the continent who can make a contribution toward eradicating the Slave trade, and to stanch the capital flows and lack of consequence which makes this vile economy thrive.

“We call upon businesses invested in countries such as Libya- which have failed to abide by the unwritten laws of humanity- to divest and support the removal of the Great Stain.

“We call upon the NGO community invested in the fight against human trafficking, forced labor, involuntary migration, social justice and the betterment of the planet to support the removal of the Great Stain.”

ICANN invites volunteers for Registration Directory Service

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has invited applications until December 7, 2016, to be appointed to the Registration Directory Service (RDS) Review Team, reports ITRealms.

ICANN, ITRealms gathered is seeking volunteers to serve on the second review of Registration Directory Service, formerly known as the WHOIS Review, urging interested individuals to provide their information in the stipulated template.

This include a biography, detailing relevant work and/or academic experience, as well as subject matter knowledge; motivation for detailing interest in serving on the Review Team and what they intend to bring to the team; specify the Supporting Organization (SO) or Advisory Committee (AC) that they would like to have consider their nomination.

In addition, ITRealms gathered that candidates are to submit their application materials to reviews@icann.org by 7 December 2016, 23:59 UTC.


ICANN promises that all applications and supporting materials will be published as they are received on the RDS wiki page.

GVE to examine socio-economic development

Global Village Extra (GVE), in its effort to examine the current socio-economic and political developments in Nigeria, and  Africa, cordially invites you to a three-day event from 28-30 October, 2016.

The event, the inaugural edition, will open with a seminar on 28 October, titled: Africa Rising: Myth or Reality? 

On the second day (29th October, 2016), there will be a speech and group discussions on: “How to Grow a Nation’s Economy”, with emphasis on Agriculture as a viable sector to Developing Africa's Economy. This would be  followed by a question and answer segment.

The second day will close with light music and dinner, followed by awards night and fund raising for Global Village Extra office building in Milwaukee.

The final day will start with interaction between Nigerian business executives and Nigerian professionals in the diaspora. Remarks by participants will follow.

Next up will be a trip to Chicago where other Nigerian professionals will be introduced to guests by the GVE team. Program ends!

The venue of the event is the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and the swanky Pfister Hotel and WELL Spa, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. The venue has a theater, shopping, shows, and museums, holds sporting events, has a 24-hour concierge, evening maid turn-down service, massage therapy, valet, and new rooftop state-of-the-art fitness center and lounge with stunning views of Lake Michigan.
