President Bola Tinubu has praised the decision of his Senegalese counterpart, President Macky Sall, not to seek a third term in office after the end of his tenure.

There had been protests in Senegal in the past few weeks following speculations about a third-term ambition of President Sall, who is moving towards the end of his second term in office.

Ghana is to host the 3rd Mr. & Miss Autism which is a pageant-style project organized by AA Antonio Foundation, reports ITREALMS.

The pageant, ITREALMS gathered, is the first autism talent grooming and empowerment hub in Ghana that promotes social inclusion through creative arts.

According to the Founder and CEO,Afi Antonio Foundation, Philomena Esinam Afi Antonio "To the glory of God this year will be our third edition."

She also revealed that on Saturday April 29, 2023 six (6) persons living on the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) would be battling out to wear the crown and own the bragging right of Mr. & Miss Autism Ghana 2023.

This event is set to happen at 3Music TV HQ. In attendance will be well-meaning High Network Individuals (HNIs), Health professionals, Diplomats, Social Activists, Social Entrepreneurs, Celebrities, Caregivers, Volunteers and Students.

The project manager, Kassim Alhassan Seid, said “We hope to reach and engage more with the Autism society and mental health community in Ghana and continue to promote social inclusion for persons on the spectrum and on a broader scale develop acceptance for persons with developmental disorders.”

Philomena Esinam Afi Antonio, founder – Afi Antonio Foundation is motivated by the acceptance rate in Ghana and she’s hoping that with the support of international and governmental organizations they could take this project to other parts of Africa. She said; “Having Government build special need centers in all regions to help poor parents who can’t afford sending their children to private centers will go a long way to help the already burdened parents”.

“Unlike the previous two editions, this year we will have children on the spectrum showcase and exhibit their handiworks. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded the third attack on its facilities in Imo State in one month, reports ITREALMS.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, Professor Sylvia Uchenna Agu, was quoted as reported that the third in the series as the State Headquarters office in Owerri that got attacked by unknown gunmen.

The Cyber Security Challenge Nigeria (CYSEC NG), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in its bid to consolidate on efforts to forestall the high rate of incidences of cyber-attacks affecting the globe and Nigeria inclusive, is organizing its Annual National Hacking and Cyber security conference in Abuja, reports ITREALMS.

Director-General CYSEC NG, Mr Victor Idonor, told ITREALMS, the conference has been slated for Tuesday, October 30 through Wednesday 31, would centre on the theme `Forensics and Defense Against Next-Gen Frauds’ and will also serve as a platform for a `National Hacking Challenge’ to identify Nigeria’s next generation of cyber professionals.

He noted that with last year's outbreak of NotPetya, Ransomware—malicious programmes that encrypt your files and demand a ransom payment in bitcoin to restore them, it became one of the most talked about forms of malware of 2017. Yet at the same time, the actual rates of malware infection began to crash down around the middle of the year, until by December 2017 it represented only about 10 percent of infections.

“One of the most common methods of email malware infection is through phishing attacks, which are becoming increasingly targeted,” he said.

According to him, out of the 1,300 IT security decision makers surveyed for CyberArk Global Advanced Threat Landscape Report 2018, 56 per cent said that targeted phishing attacks were the top security threat they faced while 77 per cent of organisations in the world were victimised by one (or more) successful cyber-attack in 2017. 17 per cent of breaches were social attacks, 76 per cent of the breaches were financially motivated while 12 per cent involved privilege misuse.

CYSEC NG has over the years been playing a vital role in assisting Nigerians scale –up skills in cyber security as well as provides direction towards building a viable Information Technology, cybersecurity professional base for Nigeria and Africa.

CYSEC NG ’18 will gather IT professionals in the industry, government agencies, public and private sector who will be thinking, working and paying greater attention to national and global cyber security trends and challenges. It will also disclose the state of security from a unique perspective, `The Hacker’s Viewpoint’, which say `In order to beat a hacker, you have to think like one and if you don’t understand the enemy, how can you protect against him”.

The hacking competition will consist of challenges that include password cracking and code breaking, web security, reverse engineering, cryptography, penetration testing, binary exploitation, forensics and many more; practical hacking demonstration, Information Security Research work presentations, stakeholders panel session and software exhibitions. . There would be a hacking challenge where participants will compete, a winner will emerge and awarded.

CYSEC NG ’18, he said, is gender sensitive, and holds a special session for women to get involved in Cyber Security issues. It will also capture secondary schools in its `Catch Them Young’ insightful time into `InfoSec towards Cyber security inclusion in Nigeria’.

The occasion affords participants the opportunity to connect, network and have high-level talks on cyber security in Nigeria and is slated to hold at the Cyprian Ekwensi Arts and Culture, Abuja.

The event is being organized by Upgraded Era Solutions in collaboration and partnership with government and non-government agencies. The event will attract a variety of top level participants from across various sectors; including Students, financial services institutions, energy, telecommunications, manufacturing, IT professionals, developers, decisions and policy makers, governmental officials, experts, consultants, industry leaders, law enforcement officials, academics, networks security and other stakeholders with an interest in the cyber security space.

As preparations for the Third Quarterly Forum of the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA) reach fever pitch, organisers of the event have named Mr. Olatunde Ogungbade, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Global Accelerex Limited as the Keynote speaker.

The NITRA 3^rd Quarterly Forum holds on Friday, October 13 at the R-Café Event Centre (opposite Renaissance Hotel), on Isaac John Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Mr. Ogungbade as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Global Accelerex Limited brings his diverse competencies as a business executive, management consultant, entrepreneur, and technology leader to guide the corporate mission of the payment solutions company.

He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Master’s Degree in Real Time Systems from London Southbank University, UK. His over two decades of international business management experience and information technology expertise covers technology strategic planning and investment, enterprise system integration, custom software development, technology operations and infrastructure management, technology commercialisation, innovative (R&D) and technology project management.

Tunde was the Enterprise Architect and IT Division Manager at Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission where he was responsible for driving the enterprise architecture initiatives and evolution through business IT capital investment alignment and strategic planning across line and staff functions in the $1.3 budget organization.

Prior to the Commission, he spent over 10 years of management consulting at various Big-5 global consulting companies (PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, Sogeti Group) working with industries lines in Government, Retail, Banking & Financial Services, Health Care, Pharmaceutical and Telcos.  

His career began as an entrepreneur, running his IT Consultancy Services firm working on strategic business projects for clients such as New Digital Systems, M. W. Kellogg on the Norsk Hyrdo and the NLNG Project and the BBC.

The Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA), an umbrella body for journalists reporting information and communications technology in Nigeria is organising the third edition of its quarterly forum entitled “Digital Payment: Prospects and Challenges of a Financially Inclusive Nigeria.”

Africa ranks 3rd in ALS accreditation in 13 years

In over a decade of accreditation for the At-Large Structures (ALS) by the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC, Africa recorded 42 and third in the category, reports ITRealms.

This 42 is coming out of the world five regions, just as Latin America and the Carribbean Islands, topped the ranking with 50 ALS within the period under review.

Also coming second is the Asia Pacific with 44 ALSes, while Europe recorded 37 and North America 27.

This, ITRealms reports is an average of 14 ALSes each year.

Although, it was gathered that an estimated 33 per cent of ALSes are Internet Society Chapters from across the globe.

ITRealms recalls that since September 2003 when the first ALS, the Internet Society Italy Chapter, the At-Large Community has seen a steady increase of ALSes.

ALS is a wholly independent organization from ICANN, whether it is an Internet-related consumer rights groups or an academic organization, ALSes share the passion in furthering the development of Information and Communication Technologies and contributing to policy activities that influence the technical coordination of the Domain Name Systems.

NiRA announces 3rd AGM for August 26

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has announced that its 3rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) will hold on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at Oshun Hall, Lagos Airport Hotel, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

According to a statement signed by Ugo Akiri on behalf of the NiRA Secretariat, the AGM will provide members the opportunity to review the Association’s performance and financial standing for the years ended May 31, 2009, and May 31, 2010.
