New Horizons, Microsoft integrate Anambra schools

New Horizons Systems Solutions Limited and Microsoft Nigeria have integrated over 100 schools in Anambra State.

Chief executive of New Horizons Systems, Mr. Tim Akano said that with the latest development, Anambra State has become “21st Century” compliant.

His organization, Akano said, partnered with Microsoft to support the initiative of Gov. Peter Obi’s administration by empowering 10,000 Anambra youths and 2,500 civil servants with IT related skills.

According to him, this initiative of the State Government tallies with New Horizons vision of empowering Nigerian youths; with the belief that the next generation of Philip Emeagwalis’ will be produced through the programme. It should be noted that Prof. Emeagwali hails from the state.

According to him, Anambra State is not left out from the technology revolution, as its holding firm and moving fast and forward with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) integration right from the schools in the rural communities where 50 students in each selected secondary school numbering 110, will get one laptop with internet connectivity in the schools and other designated centres.

He noted that this initiative is another first by the Gov. Peter Obi-led Anambra State government in partnership with New Horizons Systems Solutions Limited, a leading Information Technology (IT) and business skills training company in collaboration with Microsoft Nigeria, world’s leader in business solutions.

As said by Gov. Obi ICT is the future of this country, therefore “our people in Anambra State should be at the vanguard of the ICT revolution in Nigeria,” emphasizing that his administration would continue to concentrate on projects that would have strategic, lasting impact on the people of Anambra State.

Also speaking, Microsoft Nigeria Platform Development Manager, Mr. Ken Spann, revealed that education is a powerful and positive force for growth and development in every society.

“Microsoft is committed to create partnership with students, educators, institutions and government to help them achieve their educational goals and contribute to the development of the country and their industries,” he said.

Microsoft, he recalled, has registered 110 participating schools as IT Academies whilst providing the state with software packages for the computers, including windows7 and Microsoft Office 2010 free. Meanwhile, New Horizons is to train 1 teacher per academy through its highly skilled Instructors who will later deploy ICT skills amongst students of the registered Secondary School academies and selected civil servants in the state.
