Onitsha-Enugu road to receive attention in 2018 - Buhari
The President, Muhammadu Buhari has assured that the dilapidated
Onitsha-Enugu Expressway would receive attention this years, reports ITRealms.
Making this disclosure in his new year message broadcasted
in Nigeria on Monday, January 1, 2018, President Buhari said that Onitsha-Enugu
Expressway is among the 25 major highways to be funded under the N100b SUKUK
facility.
“Each geo-political zone will benefit by an equal amount of
N16.67b,” he declared, and also listed the benefiting major highways to receive
special attention to include the Enugu – Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Way, Oyo –
Ogbomosho, Ofusu – Ore – Ajebandele – Shagamu, Yenagoa Road Junction – Kolo
Otuoke – Bayelsa Palm, Kaduna Eastern Bypass, Dualization of Kano – Maiduguri
Road, Dualization of Abuja – Lokoja – Benin Road, and Dualization of Suleja –
Minna Road.
In addition, he said, Federal Government has approved work
to start on the re-construction of Abuja – Kaduna –Zaria–Kano road which is in
a state of disrepair.
“Work will soon start and is expected to be completed in
2019,” he said.
Buhari equally blasted some oil marketers who took pride afflict
difficulties on Nigerians especially at this period of Christmas and New Year,
described the situation as “unfortunate and sad.”
“Instead of showing love, companionship and charity, some of
our compatriots chose this period to inflict severe hardship on us all by
creating unnecessary fuel scarcity across the country,” he said.
According to him, the consequence was that not many could
travel and the few who did had to pay exorbitant transport fares, describing
that as “unacceptable given that NNPC had taken measures to ensure availability
at all depots. I am determined to get to the root of this collective blackmail
of all Nigerians and ensure that whichever groups are behind this manipulated
hardship will be prevented from doing so again.”
Buhari further promised to get to the root of such
unpatriotic attempt to divert his administration from the course they set for themselves.
“Our government's watch word and policy thrust is 'Change'. We
must change our way of doing things or we will stagnate and be left behind in
the race to lift our people out of poverty and into prosperity,” he assured.

104 Nigerian youths receive NNPC-SNEPCo scholarships
A second set of 104 pupils from six geo-political zones in Nigeria have been awarded full-board six-year secondary school scholarships by the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), reports ITRealms.
This, ITRealms gathered is the third set of the NNPC/SNEPCo National Cradle-to-Career (NC2C) programme designed to give top quality education to bright but indigent youths.
The latest awards bring to 267 the total sponsorship since the NNPC/SNEPCo NC2C was introduced three years ago, according to sources at NNPC.
The latest beneficiaries have joined the other recipients who are enrolled in six leading private schools – Lead Forte Gate College, Lagos; Premiere Academy, Abuja; Nigerian Tulip International College, Kaduna; St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Lagos; Top Faith International Secondary School, Akwa Ibom State; and Grundtvig International Secondary School, Anambra State.
During the award ceremony held at Lead Fort Gate College, Lekki in Lagos, the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule commended SNEPCo for the success of the NC2C which she said had achieved its purpose by helping to bridge educational inequalities resulting from socio-economic differences.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, the deputy governor added, “SNEPCo has kept faith with the commitment of supporting indigent Nigerian youths to attend some of the best secondary schools in the country and helping to reduce the number of school dropout before completion of basic education.”
The Managing Director of SNEPCo, Mr. Bayo Ojulari, who was represented at the award ceremony by the General Manager Exploration, Mr. Dayo Adewuyi, said the educational initiative contributes towards the actualisation of the UNESCO ‘Education for All’ goal. He said: “We also do this because, to us in SNEPCo, education is key to national development. In the three years of the programme, we are already seeing signs of success. Last year, for instance, one of the scholars was awarded a scholarship by the implementing school because of her exceptional academic performance. So, I expect that this set will settle for no less.”
The award recipients emerged through a competitive process starting with an aptitude test which was open to graduating pupils in public primary schools in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. They then underwent a two-week orientation programme with introductory courses in academics, character and psychology to prepare them for a seamless integration into their new learning environment.
The NC2C scholarships are just one of the many programmes in SNEPCo’s social investment portfolio in Nigeria. Other programmes include the equipping and donation of information technology and communication centres in many primary, secondary and tertiary institutions and hosting of health outreaches in different parts of the country. SNEPCo had recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU) for the construction of a multi-million naira eLibrary for the Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, and the company signed another MoU last week for the construction of a centre of excellence in Geoscience at the University of Lagos.

Tonto Dikeh’s sermon 'Happiness doesn’t come by materialism'
Controversial actress and director,
Tonto Dikeh has urged her fans to always give more than they receive, saying that
happiness is not quantified by materialism, reports ITRealms.
Tonto in a likely Monday sermon on
her Instagram page, told fans that everyone wants to be happy in life,
acknowledging that happiness is not quantified by materialism.
According to her, this much she
learnt in her cause of life journey.
“I used to think that when I have a
nice car and a lot of money I would be happy. Yet on my journey I have met
hundreds of people with all of these things, yet none of the happiness,” she said.
Admonishing that if anyone’s bank
balance exceeds sense of purpose or the only purpose is to work towards
achieving a greater bank balance, then you are likely to struggle in finding
happiness.
“Appreciate what you have, gaining
more won't make you happy if you aren't happy with what you already have,” she
said, stressing that they should endeavor to live in the moment, and askew
videoing of everything you see, instead, take it in whilst it is happening, then
relive the memories forever.
“You were there but looking at a
phone screen...? Give more than you receive, be it your time, money, gifts,
love and laughs. When you give someone your best, the best comes out of you.
Stop worrying about your future! Your future is going to happen, it is yours to
happen to. If you want something then work towards it, but make sure you are
happy on the way there,” Tonto advised.
She emphasized that every human will
die someday, so concentrate on the living.
“Don't practice escapism because you
are unhappy with your reality, be real, keep level headed and make sense of
your life,” she said.
Tonto further said that being high
or drunk all the time is a problem, nobody wants to be ill or crazy or both!
“Life is a journey not a
destination, you never want to get too comfortable, comfort is where you put on
weight, get slow, become bored. I'm not saying throw yourself out of a plane,
but you should try to do something that scares you now and again,” she said.
Insisting that people should not
worry too much on what other people are doing, because “they are on their own
journeys, enjoy yours, try not to compare your behind the scenes life to
someone else's highlight reel.”
Tonto went on to advise fans to
uphold what is in their hearts and heads because they shine brighter “than
what's on your wrist and neck.”
