The youth groups across the Delta South Senatorial District have declared their unwavering support for Dr. Austin Orette, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, warning that any attempt to prolong the tenure of the incumbent or the ruling party will exacerbate the 'agony' of the people, reports ITREALMS.

The representatives of various vibrant youth organizations converged in Warri on Friday, where they made the demand for radically different and better representation in the next general election.

Felix Omatsola Ogbe on Tuesday inspected the ongoing training of 305 youths in specialised oil and gas industry skills at the Centre for Marine and Offshore Technology Development (CMOTD), Rivers State University (RSU), reports ITREALMS.

Sponsored by the NCDMB, the trainings cover seven technical areas, which include Automation, Instrumentation and Control, Mechanical/Process Piping and System Design/ Pressure Vessel and Heat Exchanges Design (PV-ELITE), Electrical Power Transformer Repairs and Maintenance, and Industrial/Practical Ship Design and Construction.

Not less than 9,000 youths in the Niger Delta have acquired entrepreneurial skills in the LiveWIRE programme of the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) since it was introduced in 2003 as part of efforts to boost employment opportunities among people aged 18 – 35 years.

In its bid to build the capacity of youth towards making them employers of labour, the NNPC Foundation, in partnership with Kudimata Nigeria Limited, a financial education outfit, have trained the Batch C members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in basic financial literacy skills.

The training, which aligned with the objectives of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) scheme of NYSC had its maiden edition featuring Batch B stream in the past months. So far over 118,000 youth corps members have been trained in financial literacy, while about 70,000 are being trained across the 37 NYSC orientation camps in the country.
