Freshworks delivers Artificial Intelligence-powered experiences

ITREALMS:
Against a background where market disruption is key to creating new opportunities, Freshworks has embraced Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help keep their clients relevant, competitive and profitable, reports ITRealms.

Having identified Twitter as a key channel through which customers often engage companies, Freshworks has developed a social AI entity called Social Signals. This AI tool helps filter relevant and important messages from the volume of Twitter messages that may be directed at any one company. Social Signals works by going through a company’s entire feed, where it understands and filters out tweets asking for help. These tweets are then converted to a task for a customer support agent to remedy, while disregarding all other tweets.

By filtering tweets, the Social signals AI seamlessly enhances Freshworks’ cloud-based engagement platform, Freshdesk. This integration empowers businesses of all sizes with the kind of next-generation customer experience and innovation that modern society demands. To further refine the effectiveness of Social Signals, support agents can train the AI to recognize new types of communication thus improving its learning, resolution and decision-making skills.

In an extensive research, Freshworks found that smart automated programs called chatbots, responded to a significant 40% of questions asked through Freshdesk. Furthermore, chatbots could dramatically improve the quality of exchanges between customers and support agents. This was achieved by the chatbots requesting basic information first to collect necessary customer data. Significant benefits from time and cost savings were also recorded with increases of 15% to 20% more customers being helped.

Arihant Jain, Business Head - Middle East & Africa at Freshworks commented, “AI has immense potential to add real value to the customer experience journey irrespective of the industry. However, AI must be viewed as a complement rather than as a replacement for people. This is something we are passionate about at Freshworks, where we look to technology to combine the ingenuity and efficiency of automated solutions with the irreplaceable empathy of the human touch. Freshworks prides itself in offering its growing number of customers and partners, solutions that enhance their service offering without negatively impacting the bottom line.”

SNEPCO Bonga delivers 702m oil barrels for Nigeria in 12 years

The Managing Director of the oil field operator, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Bayo Ojulari, has said that Bonga oil field has produced about 702 million barrels of oil since inauguration in 2005, and operated at over 92 per cent availability in 2016, reports ITRealms.
He said that the volumes came from the Bonga main field and Bonga Phases 2 and 3 that unlocked the nearby Bonga North West field in August 2014, which has capacity for 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Addressing energy editors in Lagos on Tuesday on the new lease of life of Bonga after a major turnaround maintenance which was completed in April, Ojulari said one of the highpoints of the turnaround was the engagement of about 65 Nigerian contractor and subcontractor companies. Over 1000 people were involved, spread across worksites and vessels in the exercise described as the biggest in scope in the 12-year history of the asset.
He said, “The exercise stimulated growth of support industries vital to deep-water asset management. It provided a wider benefit to the Nigerian economy by boosting demand for a range of goods and services including offshore vessels and platforms, materials, floating hotel and helicopters.”
According to Ojulari, the turnaround witnessed an optimisation of resources and was safely completed within schedule. The exercise included statutory and regulatory checks and inspections; repairs and replacement of equipment; and upgrade of facilities.
A critical success factor, according to Ojulari, was the collaboration by more than 10 functions who benchmarked their contributions against a robust execution plan. Procuring materials from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) saved cost and ensured seamless delivery, and the project team sourced key equipment and carried out fabrications within Nigeria. This innovation, he said, marked a turning point in SNEPCo’s efforts to develop the capabilities of Nigerian companies in the provision of goods and services in deep-water oil and gas production.
Ojulari expressed delight at the increasing number of women on the frontline, noting that more women were involved at every stage of the turnaround compared to any of the three previous exercises. “I’m very pleased that over 95 percent of these women are Nigerians and they add to our growing pool of Nigerian deep-water professionals produced through the asset,” he said.
He commended the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and its co-venture partners for their timely support in the safe delivery of the turnaround.
SNEPCo is credited with producing the first generation of Nigerian deep-water oil and gas engineers, and in 2016, Bonga won ‘Asset of the Year’ Award in the Shell Group.
Bonga is Nigeria’s first deep-water development in depths of more than 1,000 metres, and is located 120km offshore Nigeria. The Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel receives crude and gas from production wells on the seabed and has the capacity to produce 225,000 barrels of oil and 210 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. SNEPCo operates Bonga in partnership with Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deep Water) Limited, Total E&P Nigeria Limited and Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited under a Production Sharing Contract with the NNPC.

Bassanini says wholesale divestiture delivers non-discriminatory access

The President Open Fiber, Mr. Franco Bassanini, has said that only divestiture of the wholesale operation can deliver non-discriminatory access to the end-users, reports ITRealms.

Bassanini was speaking weekend, at the Digital Regulation Forum in London, said that boosting growth and competitiveness through digitalization, would require a model and role of the wholesale only fiber companies.

According to him, the recent step by the regulator in London, OFCOM which he described as courageous initiative, with regards to public funding investment into the sector.

He also said that OFCOM took into account the current regulatory framework, stressing, however, that “only divestiture of the wholesale operation can deliver both non-discriminatory access and long term investment incentives.”

For him, the reason why whole-sale only fiber company model works is that it has many advantages and produces many benefits in terms of public policies.

“It allows regulators to better ensure open competition among telecommunications service providers, to ensure that the playing field is indeed level. It favors long-term investments in the construction of new generation infrastructure (FTTH and 5G),” he said.

Bassanini pointed out that these are key factors for the growth and competitiveness of European economies, and makes it easier for governments putting in place market friendly incentives.

The European Commission, he noted, also seems to share this approach, just as the Commission highlighted that network owners “that do not have retail market activities and whose business model is therefore limited to the provision of wholesale services to others, can be beneficial to the creation of a thriving wholesale market, with positive effects on retail competition downstream.”

He maintained that the business model could be attractive to potential financial investors in less volatile infrastructure assets and with longer term perspectives on deployment of very high capacity networks

PIN delivers FoI to CommTech on Nigeria's ‘Eavesdropping’ satellites

The Paradigm Initiative Nigeria (PIN) has submitted a letter to the office of the Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu over the alleged eavesdropping capabilities of one of the two satellites being proposed by Nigeria, reports ITRealms.

According to PIN Director of Programmes, Tope Ogundipe, media report had stated that “inside sources at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) told Independent that one of the proposed satellites has eavesdropping capabilities.”

She also noted that the request was made in line with the objectives of PIN, hence “we call on the Federal Ministry of Communications to provide all the details involved in the building and launching of the two new satellites for the Nigerian government. As we have stated in the freedom of information request sent to the Ministry on February 2, 2017, the scaling up of the number of satellites in space may be noble but in order to ensure that this is done with utmost regard to digital rights of every Nigerian, every stakeholder, including the Ministry, must all act as watchdogs for our digital rights.”

Ogundipe equally pointed that even though there have been insinuations that these satellites are capable of eavesdropping on the communications of most Nigerian citizens when finally launched, PIN believes that the Ministry understands this to be an erosion on the fundamental human rights guaranteed by Section 37 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“With this belief, we are sure that these published allegations are just what they are and contain no truth,” she said.

Paradigm Initiative, she said, maintained its position of continuous monitoring of this development for new updates and ensure that a logical conclusion is reached on the matter. Noting that in the past 4 years, the organisation has used litigation to follow up on FoI requests that were not responded to.
