Renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and human rights advocate, Mr. Femi Falana, has officially accepted the invitation to serve as the keynote speaker at the 8th anniversary lecture of Penpushing Media, reports ITREALMS.

The event, a flagship gathering for media professionals and policy stakeholders, is scheduled for July 23, 2026, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.

As the case between Citadel Oracle Concept Limited and Zinox Technologies returns to court, a document from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has put a lie to the claim under oath by Benjamin Joseph, CEO of Citadel, that he was not aware of the contract executed by his company at FIRS.

It will be recalled that Joseph, in his statement on oath in suit No: LD/4335/2014 in the High Court of Justice, Lagos State, dated 28th June, 2019, averred that his company, Citadel, did not execute any contract with FIRS and that he was not aware that a contract had been awarded to Citadel.

The management of the foremost African digital conglomerate, Zinox Technologies Limited, has demanded a public apology from Mr. Femi Falana SAN over alleged defamation and reputational injury inflicted on the company and its representatives by Falana and his client, Benjamin Joseph, the CEO of Citadel Oracle Concept Limited, an Ibadan-based computer firm.

In a statement on Sunday, Zinox referenced recent news items in the media relating to certain charges filed by Falana, purporting to act on a fiat donated to him by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi SAN, whom Zinox said may not have been properly briefed.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana has described as worrisome the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria to the tune of 20.2 million, reports ITREALMS.

Reacting to the recent findings by the UNICEF that some 20.2 million out of school children exist in Nigeria at fundraising flagship event by Ibironke Adeagbo (IA)-Foundation in Lagos at the weekend, Mr. Falana decried the figure and said that there is need to intensify efforts in bringing these children back to the classrooms.

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) presided over by Honourable Justice C. O. Oba sitting in Court 32 has struck out Charge No. FCT/HC/CR/469/2022 filed by Falana & Falana against the Chairman, Zinox Technologies, Leo Stan Ekeh and officials of Technology Distributions Limited, including Mrs. Chioma Ekeh, Chris Eze Ozims, Shade Oyebode, Charles Adigwe and others over an alleged fraud involving a N170m contract with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

This follows a letter dated October 28, 2022 from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPP) to Falana & Falana withdrawing the fiat earlier granted them in May 2022 and also directing them to immediately withdraw the said Charge constituted as FCT/HC/CR/469/2022 leveled against Mr. Ekeh and the others, based on the findings that the fiat was obtained on misrepresentation and concealment of material facts by their client, Mr. Benjamin Joseph of Citadel Oracle Concepts Limited.

Falana, Odinkalu to speak @LAP awards - ITREALMS

Leading human rights activists, Mr. Femi Falana SAN and Prof. Chidi Odinkalu are billed to speak at this year’s League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) Awards Night and unveiling of its legal aid initiative. The event holds at Colonades Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos on December 16, 2018, reports ITREALMS.

Odinkalu, former National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman, is the keynote speaker. The theme of his lecture is titled “Rethinking Governance Structure and Costs in Nigeria for Greater National Development.”

On his part, Falana as the Guest Speaker will herald the launch of the LAP Legal Defence Initiative (LAP-LDI), a legal aid scheme aimed to promote access to justice for indigent victims and citizens. His lecture will dwell on “Public interest litigation as a potent tool for redress of group marginalization and advancement of rule of law in Nigeria.” A panel of eminent persons will discuss both topics.

The Awards Night will witness the celebration of past LAP Presidents who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of LAP and Anambra State. Among the honorees are the pioneer LAP President, Dr. Ndi Onuekwusi, Dr. Ikem Odumodu, Dr. Mrs. Katia Ekesi (Ugonma Abatete), Mr. Chike Nwegbe and the immediate past president, Mr. Willy Nzewi.

While Anambra State Governor, His Excellency, Chief Willie M. Obiano (FCA) is the Special Guest of Honour, LAP President, Mr. Chijioke Okoli (SAN) is the Chef Host.

Falana, Ajibade influenced Nigerians in most profound ways -Tinubu

ITREALMS:

The month of May, which in 1999 heralded the rebirth of democracy again in Nigeria after almost 16 years of unbroken military interregnum, is also significant in one other respect. It is the month of birth of many prominent Nigerians, reports ITRealms.

But this statement is about just two of them, Messers Femi Falana and Kunle Ajibade, both of them icons in their chosen fields, the one an outstanding lawyer, the other exceptional journalist.

Falana, born May 20, 1958, and Kunle Ajibade, born on May 28, 1958, recently turned 60. I say happy birthday to them and wish them long life, continued good health and renewed energy to continue to make invaluable contributions to our country.

Both are close friends and associates, with whom I have interacted in our continuous struggle for the enthronement of true democracy, good governance and rule of law.

Mr. Falana is a lawyer, pro-democracy and human rights activist who over time employed and continues to employ the instrumentality of the law to correct the ills of the society.

His contributions to constitutionalism and jurisprudence know no bounds. He takes briefs from the rich to empower him to fight the injustices against the poor pro bono. Like his late mentor and comrade, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Falana is an advocate of the people, of the masses.

Ajibade is that astute journalist and celebrated author who through his pen fought against the military junta and was particularly a thorn in the flesh of the late Abacha regime.

He authored two popular books ‘Jailed for Life,’ his experience in prison to which he was clamped by the Abacha junta, and ‘What a Country,’ which speaks about the ills in the country.

As both were united in their month of birth, there is also an unmistakable meeting point in their life trajectories. Both fought against successive military regimes to facilitate the emergence of democracy in the land and a country laden with respect for human rights.

They fought to ensure Nigeria is a citadel of social justice and rule of law and generally a better place for the present generation and generations yet unborn.

There is no doubt that both Falana and Ajibade had impacted Nigeria and Nigerians in the most profound ways. 

We thank them for their struggles. We thank them for their sacrifices. But we are not yet in the Promised Land. We enjoin the duo not to rest on their oars and to join hands with us in the All Progressives Congress, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, to make Nigeria a better place.

Corruption, Whistleblowing: Falana, Ribadu for summit

Lagos-based prominent human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana and pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu will on Tuesday headline a national summit on whistleblowing and the fight against corruption in Nigeria, reports ITRealms.

The event is being put together by the African Centre for Media & Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), in conjunction with House Committee on Financial Crimes, Socio-economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).

The theme of the Summit scheduled to begin at 9am at Rockview Hotel in Abuja is FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION: HARNESSING THE WHISTLEBLOWING OPPORTUNITIES.  

According to Chido Onumah, Coordinator of the Centre, “The event is designed to interrogate the whistleblower policy and engage critical stakeholders responsible for promotion of the policy and its implementation.”

Aside Falana and Ribadu, other papers  will also be delivered by Waziri Adio, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and Professor Abdullahi Shehu of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The Summit is part of activities under the Corruption Anonymous project of AFRICMIL aimed at building public confidence and support for the whistleblower policy of the Nigerian government.

The project is supported by the MacArthur Foundation.
