The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, has affirmed that the landmark Radisson Hotel and Conference Centre in Yenagoa is on track for a December 2026 commissioning, reports ITREALMS.

The announcement followed a high-level project management tour and workshop at the Nigerian Content Tower (NCT), featuring executives from South Africa’s Edison Corporation (incorporating Radisson Hotels Group) and the project contractor, Megastar Technical and Construction Company.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has declared that old designed Naira banknotes will not go off the street and circulation anytime soon, even beyond December 31, 2023, reports ITREALMS.

CBN through its Director, Corporate Communications, Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, recalled that the Apex bank had introduced the redesign of N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations in October 2022 and certain deadlines were set for the old design of these denominations to cease as legal tenders.

Professor Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has disclosed that Nigeria is giving the final touches to its proposed National Dig Once Policy, hinting that there is a plan to unveil the policy before the end of 2022.

Pantami made the disclosure in Lagos at the just concluded fourth edition of Policy Implementation Assisted Forum (PIAFo) on Dig Once Policy and Fibre Strategy in Nigeria with the theme: Laying the Foundation for Ubiquitous Broadband for Nigeria’s Economic Breakthrough.

DBI targets 2,000 primary, secondary school teachers by December - ITREALMS

The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) has declared focus on training over 2000 primary and secondary school teachers and administrators before year end, reports ITREALMS.

A press statement made available to ITREALMS, the Administrator of the Institute, Dr. Ike Adinde, stressed that the training programme is being extended to secondary schools under the initiative tagged Digital Awareness Programme (DAP) with funding provided by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

ITREALMS recalls that DBI is the capacity-building arm of the NCC which has the mandate to train Nigerians on emerging trends and rudiments of Information Communication Technology (ICT). Adinde said the schools will cut across all the six geographical zones of the federation.

Adinde described ADAPTI as a shining example of what intervention from government can do. “The NCC has supported ADAPTI from its inception and so today the universities are enjoying our capacity building opportunities because there is funding coming from the NCC via the ADAPTI programme to the universities. As we speak ADAPTI has accounted for the training of over 50,000 Nigerian lecturers and non- lecturers across all tertiary institutions.

“This year we have extended the programme with the approval of the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta, to secondary schools, so we now have a second component of another version of ADAPTI which we call DAP (Digital Awareness Programme) which is an appreciation programme for secondary schools and this year we’re targeting over 2000 primary and secondary school teachers,” Adinde said.

The Administrator who is a strong advocate for increased funding for ICT training among African governments said capacity building should not be an option; “it is a choice that government and organisations just have to make because the more knowledgeable and more skilled your employees are, the better their performance and productivity at work, the better they’re able to contribute to organisational objectives and goals.”

The DAP programme targets pre-tertiary teachers and administrators of public schools for training in basic ICT, office productivity tools, Intranet and Internet, use of e-teaching and e-learning facilities at no cost to the participants to enable them with ICT skills to improve their learning, teaching and administration skills.

National ID: NIMC targets 28m capture by December

The National IdentityManagement Commission (NIMC) is targeting to capture some 28 million Nigerians in its data base before December 31, this year, reports ITRealms.

Revealing this to ITRealms in Lagos, the Director-General and Chief Enrollment Officer (CEO) of NIMC, Engr. Aliyu Abubakar Aziz, said they have currently captured 18.5 million as at the last count.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to ensure this mile stone is achieved within the specified time.

He pointed out that as at 2015, some 7 million Nigerians were captured in the National Identity Management System and as at December 2016, NIMC has registered and captured 14 million people.

Till date, the DG told ITRealms, NIMC has established enrollment centers in 809 locations, 556 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across 36 states of the federation.

Equally, the Director-General said, this is in addition to some 215 special centers nationwide.

NIMC under his watch, he said, has been envisioned to provide sustainable world class identity management solutions, to enhance governance and service delivery in Nigeria by 2019.

Aziz, further warned that Nigerians who are yet to register and obtain the National Identification Number (NIN) issued by the Commission, may suffer the risk of being branded as a non-Nigerian citizen in the next few years.

He advised Nigerians that yet to get registered or captured in the NIMC database to quickly ensure they do so as soon as possible.

Tips for a perfect December wedding in Nigeria

Many Nigerians consider December to be the most wonderful time of the year to plan a wedding. Over the years, a majority of couples pick the month as they believe it to be the best time to get hitched without any disturbance from the rain. Unfortunately, while December weddings can be romantic and scenic, the harmattan which is usually experienced during the period in a way ensures that everyone involved does not stop sweating. Also, considering it’s the end of the year, basic services, as well as a lot of items needed to set up the wedding, will be given at a much higher cost than normal.

If the thought of getting hitched during this time of the year is intimidating, don't fret. Where there is a will there is a way. Here are five (5) tips for the perfect December wedding in Nigeria

Have an Outdoor Wedding

Having an outdoor wedding in December is a no-brainer as it is sunny and gorgeous. Again, it may even be cheaper than renting a hall or event center. From a garden to the beach or even the outside of bride’s home, there are so many options. You have to keep in mind, though, the high temperature and make provisions to protect guests and stop them from sweltering. Ensure you put up canopies and provide parasols or hand fans. You can even print your ceremony programs on the fans; they would make a cute accessory.

Put A Drink In Their Hand

The weather is hot and the food most likely would be too. It only makes sense to ensure your menu includes a lot of cold dishes and chilly treats like mini milkshakes and smoothies for dessert, and also ensure the guests have chilled drinks served to them at intervals. In fact, you may want to consider offering guests a refreshing drink to sip on before the ceremony begins.

Have Just One Venue

It’s December; people are always on the road moving from one place to the other and attending various ceremonies. It is a safe bet to have your entire wedding in one place; that way you avoid delays and stress from the heat and traffic jams. If you must have your ceremony and reception in separate venues, ensure the venues are very near to each other. This will make transport easier.

Do Not Pick the 25^th For Your Wedding

With December comes Christmas and usually, the 25^th is set apart for not just Christian families to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with their families, but also people around the world to enjoy the gift of Santa. Unless you are of a religion that does not observe this holiday, do not make the mistake of setting your wedding date on the 25^th. Doing so will ensure your invitation is denied by so many and your wedding is not well attended.

Plan Your Pictures

Thanks to the weather condition that is prevalent in Nigeria during the month of December, the sun is usually at its peak from early in the day and as such, it is advisable that you plan your wedding pictures in such a way that you get the best possible result (especially if you are planning an outdoor wedding). Plan your photography such that you do not have to take pictures at noon or too close to noon as the sun will be directly overhead and will cause unflattering shadows. Aim to take your pictures in the morning or later in the afternoon/evening.

Aregbesola, Johnson lead delegates to ADA Hall of Fame’13

The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson will in December lead delegates for induction into Africa Digital Forum and Awards (ADA) Hall of Fame.

Confirming this to ITRealms:, the coordinator, ADA, Mr. Tayo Adewusi, told correspondent that ADA has instituted ADA Hall of Fame, which would induct Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the State of Osun and Technology Minister, among others.

He also said that several industry bigwigs including the Governor Aregbesola have confirmed attendance for the event scheduled for December 8, 2013 at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.

The guest speaker, he said will be speaking on the theme ‘’Deepening e-governance, Transparency with Broadband Access,” while Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, who is the chief host, would support him and host, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Executive Governor of Lagos State.

Special guest of honour, he said, is Mrs Omobola Johnson, Hon. Minister of Communication Technology, just as the keynote speakers include the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah, Prince Emeka Mba, Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Gerald Ilukwe MD / CE, Galaxy Backbone Plc.
